What I mean is that when your use "file>create>logos>carved", it is not "almost like a script", it is a script (that comes with the rest of Gimp).

Very effective Wallace, I liked them both but the bottom was much easier to follow. Top one was too fast and I missed half of it. :teeth

Yeah you're right about the first tutorial. "Tutor4U" is a really good Gimp tutorial maker that's very easy to follow.

I found these 2 tutorials on the subject. Take a look at them and see if they can be of some help to you. I think the first tutorial link might be able to be made into a script, but don't quote me on that.

First video I felt gave better results. The fellow got a little fuzzy once he started shifting the selection around. I've seen this tut before. What you never see is pressed in text on a light background using a darker text.

I know about this tut. But its falls very short on options.

I'm just surprised there's no automation for this type of effect as common as it is.

You can get this effect pretty easy by using GC Shadow to create 2 shadows. Keeping shadows on top, create a black (or dark) inner shadow, then a white (or light) thinner drop shadow.

@GnuTux very nice! Awesome sauce!

You wouldn't have happened to have kept those settings for a base line to work with?

@Tux, I applied exactly the same settings as you and used your XCF for reference and mine didn't turn out the same. [Graechan... be quiet]

The baseline values posted were for my example. Shadow transparency, offsets & blur values will vary, depending on the font, font size and colors used.

The font you chose contains very narrow areas, which makes it difficult to create depth with an inner shadow. I suppose If you make that font size large enough, you might get better results. Also, you will need to adjust the brightness & saturation to get best effect for a given color/hue.
