Hi! I found that great plugin Insane Bump from Gimp website. It was made/compiled for Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit.
How to run that plugin under Opensuse 13.1(64 bit) with Gimp 2.8? Should i install any extra files or similar stuff??
(If you wondering why i use linux instead of windows, answer lies here: those updates destroyed my windows installation.) :rofl

Instructions for use -
Open an image and run the plug-in. Insane Bump will create all the maps you want in the SAME directory as the original image. Once you commit with the "Execute" button that is. :)
Insane Bump dialog will state that it is "IDLE" you can now safely close the plug-in.
You can then Drag and Drop those images (maps) from the directory into the layers list.

Enjoy!

You can get some real cool text effects with it. This is the h (height) map.

Are you sure you are not using Linux because it is the best in the west? I think it is.

Basically i use them with layer modes to create some fantastic effects. You would allow two or more maps to be visible and then play with modes to get some cool results. Such as the h map and normal map (normal map in difference mode). That creates a neat effect.

Examples-
Normal Map over Height Map - Normal map mode changed.

Grain Merge

Soft Light

Cool stuff. But there are other uses such as texturing 3D images. :)

Place the file into the Gimp User Plugin Directory.
On Ubuntu for My user which is derby:
/home/derby/.gimp-2.6/plug-ins
This was compiled and tested on 64 Bit Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop.

Just tested this in Fedora and it works fine. Wasn't this originally created to generate normal maps for use in 3D apps like Blender? This appears to generate a few other type of maps that might be useful in certain instances and for effect.

I believe you are correct Tux. I think the original plug-in created normal and height ( plus a few other type ) maps from seamless images for 3D texturing in Blender and DAZ image software ( such as DAZ 3D ).
