This is a new compile by Samj,I have tested and it has the goods :bigthup
Note! the gmic 1.6.0.1 Beta should be replaced with files from Sourceview
Image
This Gimp version 2.8.15 September 1, 2014, the feast of the work, is based on several compilations of Gimp: Dark refractive available on http://nightly.darkrefraction.com/gimp/, a big thanks to him:o) of Jernej Simoncic available on http://download.gimp.org/pub/gimp/v2.8/, a big thanks to him:o) it comes with many plugins including G'MIC 1.6.0.1. Beta aid in English (gimp_2_8_en.chm) and french (gimp_2_8_fr.chm) are provided. To install just unzip the archive into the root of a hard disk or a USB key. Avoid to unpack in a directory whose name contains accented characters or spaces. This version is, I believe, very efficient, and allows it to run compiled in 32-bit and 64-bit plugins. It can open conventional PNG, JPEG, BMP, TIFF, GIF files as well as files PS, EPS, WMF, DJVU, Raw (with pre-installed UFRaw), etc. Python 2.7.6 32-bit is installed: http://www.python.org/ download/releases/2.7.6/ tested on Win pro 8.1 64-bit.

Great!
By the way: 2.8.15 is the most current version.
If the last number is even, it is a "stable" release, if it is odd, it is a "development" release.
So right after the 2.8.14 release, the last number is increased and stays at .15 until a next
"stable" release is made.
There were some bugs fixed in 2.8.15 after the realease 2.8.14 so the state of the unofficial
release depends on the date/time of the compilation.

Have a look at: https://git.gnome.org/browse/gimp/
and for the 2.8 branch click on "gimp-2-8".
The content should be self explanatory.

With all the issues of 12 and 14, I'm hoping 16 gets released soon. If 15 did indeed patch the bugs, then that would be a good thing. :)

According to Michael Schumacher the code wasn't bad it was the libraries packed with the installer bundle. :)

Yes, because the even micro version are releases, any build from the gimp-2-8
branch - that's what the nightlies are - will always have an odd micro version,
e.g. .9, .11, .13, .15

Note that it isn't really necessary to try a more recent version of GIMP, as
this isn't a problem in the GIMP code itself (at least as far as we know right
now), but with the versions of the libraries that are packed into the installer
package.

libcairo-2.dll (causes some borders to not show, eg round colour selection)

libgtk-win32-2.0-0.dll (causes the broken icons/buttons)

libpango-1.0-0.dll (causes the pic size % dropdown font bug)

Replacing those dlls with the versions from version 2.8.10 fixes all the UI
bugs.

So if I install 14 then replace those 3 dlls, all would be well then Rod. If you tried this and it is so, I will give it a shot. :)

I believe there was at least one code issue, that being the stroke bug Graechan found. Looks like the binary from Samj was built just after the bug was fixed.

The stroke issue was fixed in the Samj 2.8.15 as samj had scripts that used this on paths, regardless I went ahead and updated RFT to 5.1 because the changes I made to make it work in 2.8.14 looked better

2.8.10 still works for me so I will wait until 16 gets released. I can live without 2.8.15.

Is there going to be a problem if you downloaded the 32bit even though you have a 64bit one?

I am going to keep using GIMP-2.8.10 because my theme will not work with GIMP-2.8.14. Besides it's just a bug release and GIMP-2.8.10 doesn't seem to have any. :)

So Lyle it's totally up to you if you want to test that dll theory but i am going to wait for a very stable version.
I have not tried Sams release with my theme and i probably will not.

This is gone in an updated (not yet published) installer with GTK+ 2.24.24.

Looks like another installer will be released soon.

Well, there were lots of bugs fixed and updates included from 2.8.10 to 2.8.12/14. I love the D&D between tabs in SWM and the filename focus problems on the 2.8.10 UI were always a PIA for me.

Quote:
Overview of Changes from GIMP 2.8.10 to GIMP 2.8.12
===================================

Core:
- OSX: Fix migration code for old GIMP directories
- Fix brush sizes when used from plug-ins
- Windows: Allow to Explorer-open files with UTF-8 characters in the filename
- Make XCF loading more robust against broken files

GUI:
- Make sure the widget direction matches the GUI language
- Remove the option to disable the warning when closing a modified image
- Fix canvas overlay widgets (like the text options) for tablets
- Make DND work between images in one dockable

Libgimp:
- Make gimp_image_get_name() return the string used for the image title

Plug-ins:
- Make script-fu-server more secure by listening to 127.0.0.1 by default and add a warning about changing that IP. This breaks the procedure's API, but for security reasons.
- Bring back proper script-fu translations

General:
- Massively clean up and fix the OSX build and bundle
- Add Jenkins tutorial
- Documentation updates
- Bug fixes
- Translation updates

- Fix brush sizes when used from plug-ins, does this mean (gimp-context-set-brush-size) works :yes

It now works just as it does in the GUI, it paints along the selection regardless of the selected area
