Hello everyone! I am using Mavericks on Mac version 10.9.4 and I downloading a version of GIMP with several add ons already installed, it's a build on the GIMP site, and I had no problems. I downloaded the version for my OS. I use G'MIC a lot for my blog photos and I am having a very frustrating issue. G'MIC installed fine and I see it in my filter tabs,but when I apply a filter to a photo, nothing happens. It appears the filter is being applied, but the photo itself is unchanged. If I go to the edit tab, "Undo G'MIC" appears, so the software *thinks* something is happening. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall and restart computer with no luck. I have used G'MIC before with no problems and I am puzzled by this. Any thoughts on how to fix this?

What 'gimp site' did you get your gimp from?
GMIC (as well as other 3rd party plugins) is not included in any official build.
Have you tried McGIMP from Partha?
There are custom builds for Macs that include 3rd party add ons.

You do find lisanet.de there, if you click on show other downloads.

@StephanieKT
Welcome to GimpChat!
I'm not a Mac user, so I'm feeling my way here, but I use G'MIC a lot.
Did you uninstall the first package completely (really completely?) Sometimes shared object libraries introduced in a first installation aren't
removed by the first package's uninstaller, and wind up being shared by the second package, persisting bad behavior.

It seems like you are really close to having a functional system. G'MIC has its own image processing pipeline (It doesn't use Gimp at all), and at the end of its run, it injects the processed image in Gimp's layer stack. That seems to be the stage that is breaking. Does the preview work (preview window in upper left - check that it is turned on)?

If you are the adventurous sort, there is a diagnostic reporting facility on the left hand side called "Output Messages" You could try setting that to "Very verbose (log file)". Detailed processing messages go to a file that usually lives at "/tmp/gmic_log". Gimp-G'MIC will tell you exactly where the containing folder resides (so long as the preview window is working). Use the "Various -> Custom Code (global)" filter, erase all the funny looking code there and replace it with this funny looking code:
-text @{-path_tmp},0,0,53,1,255
and then hit the update button. The folder name appearing in the display window is where "gmic_log" goes. Start the text editor (I believe one lives in "Utilities") and look for serious complaints from G'MIC.

If this dosen't seem too alien, and you find something that hints at the real problem in gmic_log, copy it here. I'll be back this evening (America/New_York - about 22:00 UTC)

Or you can try Yet Another Reinstall!

GRO
