Oregonian brought to my attention that the GIMP filter Line Nova by Shuji Narazaki was broken. The script was supposed to use the Foreground color as the Nova color but that feature had been broken in a previous update.

It also seemed as if the script produced an inverted Nova effect. I have updated the script to create a standard Nova effect using the selected color. Creation of an inverted nova is available as an option. Just place the script in your gimp scripts folder. This script will not interfere or conflict with the original Line Nova script.

Menu: Filters/Render/Line Nova GT

Updated to Version 0.92 by Graechan (View Details).

Available on GIMP Scripts.

Thanks, GnuTux. It's always nice to see those old scripts renewed and usable again.

This script must have been broken for some time, thanks 'O' for noticing and Gnutux for fixing

I haven't used Line Nova since 2.6, so I didn't realize there were issues with it.
Does this issue exist in 2.8?

Yes. Try it. It's at Filters / Render / Line Nova

It's supposed to use the FG color; it comes out black no matter what color you put there. GnuTux fixed it so you can choose the color and invert it.

Yes I understand and I've downloaded the new scm file. I just haven't installed it yet. Also, I can't say that this is something that I would use all that often, but now at least I know if I do it will function properly and it now has more options as well. :bigthup

The way I discovered it wasn't working right is when I tried to use it on Mahvin's tie dye tutorial. It called for white and the rays came out black. It's not one I will use a lot either but it's nice to have a properly functioning one.

I was going to ask you how you discovered this issue.
What a surprise that must have been, did you scratch your head for long over this dilemma? :hehe

:lol Nope. I just inverted the color, then told GnuTux about the script and he took it from there.

O & GT

if I'm not wrong, one has to play with "randomness" to get longer rays;
couldn't it be nicer to have somehow/somewhere the words "rays length"?

anyhow, thanks a lot for the update

I'm not sure how to answer your question. I wasn't aware the ray-length changed with the random setting. Will have to play with it a bit.

Started with a background pattern, then made a new layer with the line nova on it, then a new layer for Goofy.

Merged them and used your script to make the frame.

There is GIMP documentation on how those options work...

http://docs.gimp.org/en/script-fu-line-nova.html

The only difference is that the new version allows for color selection and inversion in the dialog.

GnuTux would it be possible to set the centre of the nova with a centerx and y setting or a selection
