I've downloaded and installed the EZ perspective plugin under OSX 10.6.9 as described in the help, but it doesn't show up in the expected place. I also tried using Terminal using chmod +x as suggested but I get an error that says:
dyld: shared cached file was build against a different libSystem.dylib, ignoring cache

Anybody with snow leopard or otherwise who knows what's going on?

Thanks,
Stefan

Hi Graechan,

thanks for jumping in. Not sure what PDB is but perhaps the database where file path entries are kept?

Anyway, I went to check on the plugin path which looks correct (the top line in the GIMP window entry matches the file path shown at the top of the screen grab.

The funny thing is when I double click the plugin folder it only shows the fourier plugin, not EZP, even though they're right side by side in the same folder.

As far as whether Python is working, I don't know, because I don't know what it's supposed to do, but when I click the Python launcher app, it starts and then complains that it isn't set to be the default application for Python scripts and that I should fix that in the Finder's Get info window. I did that, but the next time it shows the same message again.

Looks like I now have two problems instead of one!

Thanks,
Stefan

to check if python is OK open a new image and go to Filters/Render/Clouds/Fog when clicked this menu should pop up
this is a default python plugin
Image

Note! (maybe necessary) make the .py file executable on Mac OS X, via chmod +x ez-perspective.py
(can also do by right-clicking and changing “Properties”)

Hmmm... I don't seem to have this plugin. My submenu Filters/Render/Clouds has these entries:
Difference clouds...
Plasma...
Solid noise...

but no Fog. Is this an indication that Python isn't working or simply that the Fog plugin is missing? Is there another one to try?

Thanks for your patience!

Stefan

Both of these should be available and error free.
Filters | Render | Clouds | Fog....
Filters | Python-fu | Console

Where did you download Gimp?

Yes that does seem strange Odin. If you have Python, you should have clouds and Fog. Shouldn't Plasma-2 also be included in there too? Plasma two below.
Plasma Two

Where did you download Gimp?

I do have Filters/Script-Fu/Console
Is that the same one you mention? Calling it up produces the attached window.

I don't remember the URL where I downloaded from but I'm pretty sure it was from the GIMP site. It defnitely wasn't copied from someone's hard disk. I don't have the original zip anymore, but I kept a copy of the unmodified dmg file which is called "GIMP-2.8.6-SnowLeopard-ia32.dmg" if that's any help.

Thanks for the link, I'll check that out once I get this problem sorted out. I only have Plasma in the Render submenu.

My version is 2.8.6. I *think* I downloaded from the official website. "GIMP-2.8.6-SnowLeopard-ia32.dmg" is the file name of the disk image I downloaded, but I don't have the zip anymore which may have included the download address.

Thanks,
Stefan

Your problem most likely lies in the path to pythons executable. I am not sure what the extension for a Mac executable is but it may need to be changed (the path) in the pygimp.interp file so Python can run. Gimp is having a hard time finding the Python executable to run python modules and plug-ins. You can locate that here.
GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\interpreters
Please paste the text in that file in code blocks here.
Example- (this is for Windows) I am not sure what Macs python path would look like.
python=C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\Python\pythonw.exe
/usr/bin/python=C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\Python\pythonw.exe
:Python:E::py::python:

Another reason may be because you didn't "Customize" on install of Gimp.

You seem to be missing a few things. I would suggest you upgrade to a newer version of Gimp.
Current version: Gimp 2.8.14

Partha has an excellent newer version of McGIMP available here.
http://partha.com/ (version 2.8.14) This is a 64 bit compiled version.

Ok, I downloaded and installed GIMP 2.8.14 from partha.com and the Render menu looks just like my old one, i.e. the Clouds submenu contains Difference clouds... Plasma... and Solid Noise... There is still no fog.

Would I need to install EX perspective again or should the path from the 2.8.6 installation be still valid? I almost think so, since the menu entries appear to be the same. EZ perspective does not show up right now.

Sorry for posting such basic questions, but I'm at a loss here... heck I'm a musician!

Thanks,
Stefan

Not sure if this will help, because my package looks quite a bit different, but I can right-click on the GIMP app icon to select 'Show package contents' and then I can go to:

Contents/Resources/lib/gimp/2.0/interpreters

This directory contains two files:
- default.interp
- pygimp.interp

Not sure how I can take advantage of that and I feel uneasy messing with files that are normally hidden.

Ah yes, no fog, sorry. That's what I meant (fixed in above post).

Did you put the fog file in the users>library>application support> gimp folders? I use McGimp, and not all python plug ins will work in OS X, but many do.

2ton thank you for bringing your experience with mac to this thread, do you think that some python files need to be made executable as in this reminder

Note! (maybe necessary) make the .py file executable on Mac OS X, via chmod +x ez-perspective.py
(can also do by right-clicking and changing “Properties”)
