Thanks a lot, OldManGrumpy! From Issabella and myself.
You are the one who mostly appreciates our script and uses it as a master.
We are very happy...
(now you may try to create a nice Christmas postcard....you will certainly find both a good foreground image and background pattern....)

Thank you Dinasset for your pleasant comments; I just cannot get enough of this script as it is so helpful in my learning process. Seeing it run through its workflow and identifying what 'functions' it is using, has led me into GMIC. So I have tried combining your script and some GMIC features ...

Firstly a GMIC 'painted' borzoi image then run through your rusty process.
Image

Then the same borzoi run again through your rusty process, followed by Samj/couleurs metalliques.
Image

I have also created a similar one through your 'wood' function then added 'cloth' to get a tapestry effect!!

Thanks again to you and Issabella for creating this script. If I am posting too many pics to your thread and becoming boring, please let me know

Your outcomes are excellent and I'm very pleased you enter the magic world of G'MIC starting from my script code.
G'MIC really deserves attention by all of us, it completes Gimp capabilities with interesting and unique functions.
No, you are not becoming boring, because you are not repeating but creating new ideas.
Thanks a lot for your attention!

Now I have got rid of my sad feelings elsewhere, I will contribute my final images to this thread, which I have found so absolutely absorbing.

First a standard image on wood pattern-

Image

Then same image against gold background tweaked with GMIC -

Image

My thanks again to Dinasset and Issabella for putting this script out - I love it and what it can do for my learning process.

Did you notice that I just love borzois too - so gentle, aristocratic and photogenic!

OldManGrumpy, You've been a great contribution to this great script that Dinasset created to transform images into so beautiful and amazing results. You have given very nice images with this script, thank you so much. :clap :bigthup
We both enjoyed choosing the best textures and images. For me it was a pleasure to contribute a little part with Dinasset's project. :)

Thanks again Dinasset and Issabella for their works !
After a small morning of tests, i can say it works fine specially with portraits !
I used the files in attachment and you can integrate it in jpg extension since version 2.2 of Gimp. Use the folder "patterns" in your user directory of Gimp.
Here are my tests of the morning :

BoB in rusty metal :
Image

Hendrix wall tag with rusty steel :
Image

Jean Louis barreault in Bricks !
Image

Déjeuner sur l'herbe of Manet on wood (there was no vine leaf option )
Image

And finally the master's source of "le déjeuner" , Raphael, Le Jugement de Paris.
Image

Hope you'll enjoy that.

Fran, your outcomes are great! I like them so much specially BoB in rusty metal but all of them are fantastic outcomes. Thank you Fran.

I agree with you that Dinasset's script works fine with portraits. :clap :coolthup

for our fans: I release today a new version of the script, to fill the requirements coming from Odinbc and Graechan.
The new feature is implemented thru a new parameter:
- action required on the pattern
the user may choose among :
--"resize" (which is the current action performed)
--"make seamless" which uses RobA script (embedded) to transform any pattern into a seamless pattern
--"do nothing" which fill the pattern layer usign the selected pattern as it is

Following an example, using one of my photos and always the same pattern (crack):

using make seamless

using rescale

using make seamless

I now edit post # 1 to include the new version
Thanks to RobA for his script, I found that in almost any case the transformation of a pattern into a seamless pattern works fine
There are still patterns which are not good once transformed, it's up to the user the decision whether to apply it or not
