I am very new to GIMP. I am also very confused at the moment (lol). I need a little help, I understand that If I can get the information I need anywhere here is the place. So, here it goes, I am running GIMP 2.6.11 on my Vista Home Premium 64 bit OS. I would like to install GIMP# because I understand that it will enable me to use PhotoShop .ATN files with the system. Can you explain to me how I would install Gimp#(GIMP Sharp) to GIMP 2.6.11? Or Mabe you can tell me how to be able to use the Photoshop .ATN files with GIMP. Is this even possible? Can you help? Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. :gaah

its developer wrote that gimp# may support about 40% of atn no any way to use the other

about installing you should say in which OS, supposing you use windows you should temporary rename gimp-2.6.exe as gimp.2.4.exe,same for your personal .gimp-2.6 folder (it is in C:/Users/Yourname ...not that in Program files) install gimp# and revert the name of the gimp.exe file and folder as before , 2.6 instead then 2.4

If you download the 2.4 version you must do what i did.
1) download Gimp# 2.4, and mono latest version - you will also need Microsoft Dot Net framework.
if you have Paint Dot Net installed you already have framework installed.
2) rename GIMP#-2.4 to an .exe file as it downloads as a .e.x.e file
3) install mono
4) Now - rename your gimp-2.6 exe file 2.4 in your gimp-2.0 program directory,(bin folder), and run the GIMP# - 2.4 exe setup file.
If you didn't name your gimp-2.6 exe to gimp-2.4 GIMP# won't be able to install.
After install rename the gimp-2.4.exe file back to Gimp-2.6 BEFORE restarting gimp
Restart Gimp you will find all the files in your menus with small icons next to them.
To get the ATN files to run you need to place ATN files in
C:\documents and settings\UserName\.gimp-2.6\Plug-ins folder.
I can not get most of ATN files to run, as you need the support of the new source files (which need to be compiled).
And i am sorry but without Gimps header and libgimp files you can not compile a gimp plugin in windows.

Good luck with the 2.4 version - btw maybe you can ask to get a binary cross compiled for the latest version?
If you do please post back here with a link.The Gimp Sharp plug-ins other than Actions work excellent btw. :)
Need further help PM me

Note: I also corrected my post on the registry on this subject.I hope my directions about placing the ATN files in their own folder didn't mess anyone up.
The ATN files have to go in the Plug-ins folder in the users documents gimp-2.6\Plug-ins folder.

I still can get only about 4 to run though, and they run pretty shabby.However the other Plug-ins work excellent.

Even though not all included in the Photoshop Action Files

http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-sharp/files/

At the moment *.atn in the Gimp is not worth the attention - in contrast to other plug-ins included in Gimp-Sharp:

-Ministeck;
-Ncp;
-Picture Package;
-Pointillize;
-Raindrops;
-Slice Tool;
-Spliter;
-Swirlies

If the installation of Gimp-Sharp was right - it's the menu:
Filters -> Photoshop Actions ....

Don't feel bad Micki, i still can't see any action files and i downloaded the ATN set from the GIMP# download site. :)
On a up note though, the other filters are awesome.I am hoping they create a windows binary for 0.17 soon.

That is not a windows setup, and will not work in Windows.
It is a src compile folder to build all the plug-ins.

If i remember correctly you have to add one or two ATN files to the script folder at a time.
If they do not work they never will.I had 4 working at one time i think.
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=405&hilit=Action+Files
I will try again with just 5 or so ATN files in the script folder and see what happens.
I tried placing just one in the scripts folder - didn't work

:yes - Okay i got it to work by placing the ATN files in the C:\documents and settings\UserName\.gimp-2.6\scripts folder
Restart Gimp
Anytime you add a new ATN file open Gimp to see if it works.If it doesn't then do not place it in the scripts folder.
Example

Good luck with it! :)

Hi everyone,
I hope you all are having a great day. I am a little confused about the GIMP# install even though I know the steps have all been given here somewhere. I am still trying to get it installed after 3 days of trying to figure out how :gaah . I am using Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 64 Bit OS. I also have GIMP 2.6.11 running. I am ready to install GIMP#0.17 because I saw somewhere that would work better with the GIMP 2.6.11. I have downloaded an unzipped the GIMP# files. I have also installed the Mono 2.10. What do I need to do next? I looked at the install file and couldn't make heads or tales out of it. :cry I have copied and pasted the contents here hoping that some one here who is familiar with it and can explain to me how and where I should install GIMP#:

"To install Gimp# you will need Mono 2.8.x or higher. Gimp# will
work with GIMP 2.6. GIMP 2.4 (and lower) is not tested anymore.

Building Gimp# is easy:

1) unpack the archive
2) $ cd gimp-sharp-0.17
3) $ ./configure
4) $ make
5) become root
6) $ make install

Note: configure has the option --with-unittest which will build the
UnitTest plug-in. --with-incomplete and --with-pdn will build
additional incomplete (yet) plug-ins.

The files will be installed in your GIMP plug-in directory, for
example in /usr/local/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/

At the moment Gimp# will install 14 plug-ins for you:

/Filters/Picture Package
/Filters/Photoshop Actions
/Filters/Artistic/Ministeck
/Filters/Artistic/Pointillize
/Filters/Blur/Average
/Filters/Distorts/Fragment
/Filters/Light and Shadow/Raindrops
/Filters/Render/Forge
/Filters/Render/NCP
/Filters/Render/QR
/Filters/Render/Sky
/Filters/Render/Splitter
/Filters/Render/Swirlies
/Filters/Web/Slice Tool

You will also get plug-ins to read wbmp (wireless bitmap), GEM and
KoaloaPaint (old CBM64 format) files.

If you want to have jpeg2000 support (the ecw plug-in) you will have
to install the ecw jpeg 2000 SDK first (http://www.ermapper.com/ecw/).

If you want to build the Colorize plug-in you will have to install the
UMFPACK library (http://www.cise.ufl.edu/research/sparse/umfpack/) first."

Those are the install instructions. Could someone simplyfy? For example where it says "Building Gimp# is Easy" what do I need to do to build it with the information given?

Thank You

i don't think is easy build gimp#0.17 on windows , that is why there is not a windows build even if several tried to compile

not sure what was the problem for windows but i am sure that nobody was able to solve it , so or you use the previous version that has windows binary ready
or you need to use linux and the linux version.

For sure will be much harder find how to compile that on windows that learn to use linux.

I hope this is cleared up now.

For sure, PC is correct on that compile matter.
Compiling a plug-in for GIMP is darn near impossible mainly because you need a compiled version of Gimp to do it.
Why? - Because that is how you get all Gimps libgimp files and header files.Not to mention a trillion other things you need to compile Gimps source code.GEGL and BABL.

I came very close once with CYGWIN and ALL of its guts downloaded (4gigs of directories).
But with CYGWIN you also need to include all CYGWINS DLL files to have an executable running.
This is why most use Msys and MinGW setups.Because you can install and run msysgit and get
the latest gimp src code files.(no need to add dll files either).

I got to the point in the last compile of Gimp-2.7.2 of creating the Gimp exe file!
Then because the styles were incorrect compile failed (fault of the source package).
So even if you get close, you may end up with bad src files anyways.

This is exactly why i gave up on compiling for Windows.

What they are talking about, and what you posted (install directions), is installing from a terminal in Linux.
