Hello,

is there anything like the craquelure plugin in PhotoShop available in GIMP?
Or how can I achieve backgrounds like the pic below with other methods?

The craquelure 3d plugin from Redfield doesn't seem the right equivalent, just tested it.

Regards,
Dietmar

Not exactly but you could displace then bump map a texture on top of your target to get a similar result. :)

Went ahead and ran Craquelure (Kept PS7 plugins since they are still combatible with PS plugin friendly programs like Irfanview; yes, I could have opened CS5 to create this texture, but did it in Irfanview instead) on solid white texture then made the result seamless. You can use this texture as you wish. And no, I will not share the Caquelure plugin since it's still a commercial plugin even if dated. :)

I downloaded Craquelure3D from Redfields as it's listed as Freeware and it's running great in Gimp using PSPI

Just unzip and point pspi to it and restart GIMP. Filters>Texture>Texturizer

Enjoy!

GIMP doesn't support adjustment layers and layer properties in PS don't match well with the GIMP. Other then those issues, you should be able to open PS files in the GIMP. :)

That's true. You will have to test each texture to see how GIMP displays it. :bigthup

Rod it would be interesting to see how well imported .psd textures work in texturizer

You can also try loading a jpg texture into GIMP. Desatururate with average values.Save as PSD file and reopen in Texturizer. Create the texture on a white bg and open Colors>Brightness and Contrast. Turn brightness way down and contrast way up.
Example-

Same thing applies here. I opened a wood jpg, desaturated with average values, saved as PSD and reopened in Texturizer set my values there. Saved on a white bg. Then i created a new layer above and applied a linear wood gradient and set to grain merge.
