Thank you Conbagui, I'm hoping to change to the Gmic 'Blur [linear]' filter for this instead of Gimps 'Motion blur' as it is faster

On this one, I changed the filter layer from "screen" to "lighten only."

Acmespace it didn't take you long to update, note I think your Image has too many light sources and you should try one with less

True, I wouldn't normally use a star filter on those holiday light photos. But I'm playing with a new toy!
