Too lazy to make a write-up for it.But you'll figure out I'm sure.

Be careful what you ask for, you might get it?

Wow! A bit of a learning curve here, but my original thought was that wrap map was somehow involved. Guess not. I get the level layer, but not sure where to go with it from that point, so I will wait, patiently, for a brief explanation.

:)

Ok , quickie:

Assume you want a 300px rim around something:

- draw the profile in black on white in a 300px-wide layer (can be in the same image or not). Height is irrelevant, ProfileMap will consider that the full height is produce values of 255.
- run ProfileMap. This creates a 300x1px "Levels" layer where the profile height has been converted to values. You can scale the profile vertically if you want to see what it looks like comfortably.
- to use the result, use WrapMap to wrap the "Levels" layer around a selection
- use that as a bump map on another layer.

Thank you very much, ofnuts, it works splendidly, now that I got your instructions. I figured wrapmap was involved but my tired mind never thought to make the drawing twice as large.

I also managed to find some interesting results from attempts to get it working correctly (pre-instructions). I'll be sure to share those when I get back.

You can also use ProfileMap to create rods with arbitrary sections (well, almost...). This how I produced those three (even if they aren't that arbitrary).

Bonus points for finding how I got these realistic intersections :)

I'm running this process through my head now, trying to figure it out. Something tells me it was "simple" to do, but probably not the first thing someone will think of. From just looking at it, it appears you created 3 separate layers, because I don't see how it could wrap 3 different profiles on the same selection, separately.
