No!
Neither a* nor b* constitute "total chroma" individually. a* represents chroma along the green-magenta axis; b* represents chroma along the blue-yellow axis; you have to have/use both to constitute "total chroma".

thanks
this concept is outside my poor simple mind
due to my historical background (on R, G, B mode) I always consider in my mind Yellow to be like Red+Green and Magenta to be like Red+Blue
because of that I said "total chroma" (=R+G+B)
hence I do not clearly understand how a noise along the axis green-magenta can differ from the noise along the axis blue-yellow
but I will follow your indication and will apply the noise reduction on both axis

Now wait a minute. You say the 64 bit plug-in is still popping up a window? I am using the 64 bit RECOMPILE and i have no DOS window. I can not test the 32 bit version as i have a 64 bit system. I compiled both 32 and 64 bit the same (same Makefile) and the 64 bit works fine for me. I assumed the 32 bit would as well.

Are you sure you are using the NEW compiled 64 bit version?
Someone please test the attached 64bit windows plug-in.

mackenzieh, are you running both 32 and 64 bits systems?
could you repeat your tests checking you have the NEW versions compiled by Rod?
and -AFAIK- in any windows system a DOS window can be minimized...

can please someone else perform a test on a 32-bits system?
even better if on BOTH 32 and 64-bits? (Rod runs it OK on 64-bits)
it's just a matter of replacing the original plug-in wavelet-denoise.exe
no risk (save the one you replace before testing the new one so that you can restorethe old one, just in case...)

Just tried this on Windows 7 64 bit - I don't get a DOS window.

- I was supposed to be trying this from within GIMP and not via a command line the way dinasset is using it?

thanks Kevin
the plug-in behaves the same both interactively and non-interactively, thus your test is OK
for all users having a 64-bits system
I'm still waiting on testers on a 32-bits system, because I run 32-bits and I still have the DOS window, both interactively and non-interactively

This is getting very, very silly.
I prepared and posted that quick "hack" just for Dinasset's use ..now it's ended up on Samj's website*.
Perhaps when you have finished testing, Diego, we should tidy this up and somebody can make an offical release.

*Which also means that Samj is watching this board, she just doesn't bother to log-in ..which is why she hasn't picked-up the PM that I posted to her vis-a-vis the little problem with her bokeh script as outlined in this thread: http://www.gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f ... 50#p165081
