That is an excellent idea, a checkerboard mask. :)
Now you got me thinking of making an image with another one bleeding through as polkadots. :P

maybe can be made as gmic filter:
create new filters for me is both a pain and a challenge but just merge 2 existing filters is much easier

and gmic has already the checkboard and the polka dot filter and all the merging modes needed

Can the Weave filter be added to it? Coordinate sizing of the weave filter and the checkerboard.

I absolutely LOVE the mustang pic!! They are all great but being a mustang maniac, I instantly fell in love with it. My son will love it too! He loves his mustang!

The more Iook at it, the more it looks like a Mustang that suffered from problems in the hyperspace transporter:)

Look at the code. In the weave Script-fu, there is a location where you can remove the rem entry so it retains the mask layers. Makes doing these child's play (well, still requires some more iteration work and copy the layer masks themselves and blending. Probably could even automate this if I new how to Script-fu.). :)

I'm going to look at this, Lyle. I guess I need all the help I can get in learning to understand how to go about accomplishing what I want done in a script. Practice makes perfect.

The trick with coding is internal documentation Mahvin so that if you ever have to go back and update the code, you know what to do. I'm no coder but had to do more then I cared to in college and in part of my career (when I was an EE; of course I didn't care for coding. Rather do simulations and circuit design; lol). The Weave Script-fu is pretty well documented for even a lame person like me to figure out. Below's the place in the code where you need to remove the semicolon to retain the mask. :)

original:
; Uncomment this if you want to keep the weaving mask image

Lyle: That made me chuckle. See? You're a coder! :)

I'm testing the multifill and trying to figure out the problem by looking at the original script, atm. But I did open the weave script and hope to add the ability to take two layers (images) and run one image horizontal, and the second image vertical, and then combine the two. In theory, it seems pretty simple to implement, let's hope its easier on my noob mind than I anticipate.

No Mahvin; a coder finds joy doing it. I'm a hardware Electronics guy (modeling, simulations, prototyping) and did enjoy that which I know longer have the privilege of doing. Now, I enjoy using other folks filters, plugins, programs (i.e., a user/poser). I am enough of an approximist to be dangerous Mahvin. lol

edit:

You ninja'ed me PC. lol

Thanks for the comments. :)

Maybe intimidated is a euphemism
we may have given the impression that weave two pics with gimp is not so difficult:
it only requires reading carefully a dozen on thick books on Scheme and Lisp programming and a few weeks of daily experimentations :gaah

Well PC intimidated me; now I won't even try to learn Scheme (as if I even tried after using GIMP for around a decade now). lol

In theory, as all things go, its a simple matter of saying:

See my two image layers? Yes? Ok...

Merge layer 1 with horizontal weave mask, set mode (whichever works best)....

Merge layer2 with vertical weave mask, set mode (whichever works best)....

Combine layer1 and layer2, done, flush image.

EOS

There wouldn't be an overextended area of either image layer on the other, because the masks would eliminate that.
