You can construct geometric shapes by putting together strokes obtained individually:

However this may not be sufficient if you want a selection, because Gimp will compute a selection for each stroke:

Today's script will solve this problem, by splicing together into one single continuous stroke the strokes that have end points sufficiently close to each other (by about 0.1 pixel). Available at the
usual place.
