I've spent hours hunting for a post about a script that would, for a finite set of color dots plopped down on an empty layer, obligingly "fill in" (rubber sheet? 2D polynomial? relaxation method?) a 2D gradient which matched the values of the points at their locations.

If you know of it, take pity and point me to it. If you know it exists only in my mind, it's the drug interactions again. (However, my memory of using it once or twice is so real I can taste it like chicken.)

Thank you.

Mean fill by Saulgoode and Rob A? That works on a selection/selections of the original image.

Rod,

What I'm remembering is sort-of the opposite of this script. Having a finite collection of smallish dots ("means") the imagined script synthesized a smooth 2D gradient in all directions to fill the emptiness between.

The script I developed can be used in that manner (see link above),.

Bing-a-ling!

Ting! Jing!

A Ring-a-ling!

Specifically, I was remembering just this one image of "dots":
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3153&start=40#p41455
(which I now see Rob has ninja'd in while I was enjoying floridizing myself).

Rod,

I had encountered that again in my hours of searching, but only looked at it superficially--mis-thinking that it was limited to the edge of one object, while still making a mental note--which is to say a small one--to return to visit and stay a long time.

Even if it had NOT proven to be the Exact answer, and most certainly to the Point, in my opinion--which is to say a large one--referring people to that particular thread (on almost any pretext) is bound to light them up!

In my attempts to reconstruct the environment in which I encountered the imagined script--which is now become proven--I definitely remembered your participation. However, I couldn't get any further than "Holstein"... (That quixotiquity too has been resolved.) :^)

Now I will try to fix up the subject line.

P.S. And thank you, RobA, for a great script: making this post possible.

But Why? Why? Oh, what latest crazy mad scheme sent me hunting under the sofa cushions for Rob's script?

How 'bout them apples? :geek

This has probably been done before... heck, given my memory, maybe even by me!

Thanks again for furthering the march of progress! Or sumpthin.
[I notice the original images "are no longer available," but I don't know why... they don't strike me as too large.]

Sorry.

I "meant" I need a "sideways brush"--to paint under the roads for the tunnels. (Was shooting for droll; just got drool. [sorry ] )
