Dinasset - thank you for your interest in my failures  :hehe

Firstly I have solved the 'black backgound only' problem. If the active layer to which your plug-in is applied is NOT VISIBLE then you get just a black background (the isophytes layer); when the parameter FLATTEN is applied; that isophytes layer is all you get.

If 'flatten' is not applied then the image still initially turns up just black (the isophytes layer visible) but none of the 'colour' layers above it are visible. Yes you can then turn them on and play with them.

Here are some examples of my issues -

The original image on which your plug-in was applied

... 2 examples of 'not nice' mosaics from that above image

Dinasset - you asked me to post examples of my 'rejected' images. So I am not sure I understand what you are now saying because I had already posted an image in which I adjusted the blend modes to suit.

Is it then that chosen 'size' is a major factor in the outcome?

the size has to be increased when you have many small details.
I asked for SOURCE images from where you do not get acceptable outcomes applying simple modifications to parameters/layer.modes.
What I did is something simple:
look at the source:
1-if many small details, then increase the size
look at the outcome:
2-if too dark, set mode to screen on top layer
more or less Always:
ask to restore original colours

Dinasset - I provided the one relevant source image that I had saved, with two relevant outcomes from it as I do not generally retain xcf files that do not work. Lets just leave it at that eh.

I like the symmetric result, Pat, but, why such a low res. You know I like to see the details. :)

I don't know, Lyle. I tried increasing the resolution and then the size to try to get rid of the area that looks like something growing out of the left one's beak. Every time I tried to increase either one, it crashed the GIMP program. Looks like we are stuck with this one! I even tried making the image smaller to increase the Resolution but still crashed.

For the mosaic some pictures are more suitable for than others. Still a nice result Pat :gimp

Ella & Issabella: Thank you for your nice comments. Yes, some pictures are more suitable, but for some reason I kept playing with that one! Guess I did not know when to give up!

Oh Pat, I love that :clap

Thank you for bringing this back up - since I had to reinstall Gimp and all of my plugins/scripts I need to try this again just to test to see if they work.

Thank you Dalia. Hope it works for you. I find it enjoyable. I like to go back over the older threads and tutorials, filters that I liked previously. Also, someone spent their time and efforts to write those scripts and tutorials.

Mosaic Line worked too (didn't know if "funny mosaic" would work - it did when I tried last night). My favorite flower is the Narcissus and its beautiful aroma so I thought I'd try it on my favorite little flower. I have two versions of Mosaic Lyle Style: Special Edition the first image below and Version 1.1 the second image below. Love them both.
