Wallace try resetting both the fill transform and mosaic tile helper filters from their dialog widgets. Also refresh G'MIC. I am wondering if its something to do with settings in either of Rob A's scripts.

did you understand what could have been that strange problem?

No Dinasset.
I still haven't any real understanding of why this error was/is happening.
:puzzled

Good idea Rod, that's worth a shot.
I'll give it a try when/if the error shows again.
Something has to give sooner or later, or does it?
This error is always the same one,
with the filter asking for me to set the source image.
I could see this happening if I were using an image with more then a few layers,
but not when using a single JPG or PNG image.
How would I go about setting the source image when using an image with only one layer?
That's what's so odd about this error.
:?

do you want to make a mosaic out of one single layer or out of the composite image?

Nice result, Diego. Was going to post a comment earlier but had to do some errands and just got back. :)

Wallace, I made some test on an image with multiple layers.
case A) I want to make a mosaic out from the whole image:
I did the following:
A1-create a new layer from visible on the source multilayer image
A2-run Mosaic filter, got the outcome as expected
case B) I want to make a mosaic out of a single layer:
I did the following:
B1-set visible off on all the layer except the one from which I want a mosaic
B2-set active the layer source
B3-run Mosaic filter, got the outcome as expected

Wallace, for case B another possibility is:
-edit/copy the layer source
-edit/paste as new image
run the filter having the new image active

I've only tried running the filter on images that were flattened,
ie. no alpha channel with a single layer.

At one point I received that error and experimented by duplicated the image,
that seemed to work,
but only once thus far.
Then again...
I opened another single layer image and received the error,
duplicated the layer and still received the same error.

It's hit or miss.
I'm never sure if when I run the filter what's going to happen.
It looks as though I'm the only one having this issue.
This leads me to think that it might have something to do with my setup/PC.

I opened a thread exactly to double-check what you are saying: is a single case or not?
unfortunately it seems that the majority of the chatters here around is very ... lazy, and this is strange because we do not ask to do some complex thing: just download/install/try that filter, then everything can be removed from the PC if of no interest at all. So far only Steven (thanks) gave his contribution.

I haven't recieved that error lately.
It's not easy to reproduce,
given the fact that it's happened with and without using the same images.
I did this image without any issues.
Ran the "normal" filter 5 different times on this image without error.

For me:
in Gimp 2.8.16 - works well.
in Gimp 2.9.3 - I have exactly the same error - so it's not a computer (it may issue version of Python - I will check later)

Thanks Diego - another amazing plugin.

I really like Wallace's outcome so I decided to give this new filter a run -

... a Roman aquaduct near Lyon

... and a shot from the Stdney Vivid light show ...

Image

I really like the results, so thank you to Lyle and Diego for yet another great contribution to GIMP.

Wallace - thanks a lot; I think I have a new addiction

Image

... one of my Aussie orchids run through the script then I gave it a bit of 'spit & polish' with some GMIC>local orientation, which really brought out the colours

I guess I have to explain a bit how to get Mosaic accordind to the user taste.
As detailed in another post, I'm limited to a brush spacing 10x (1 pixel dot every 10 pixels).
To have a bit of flexibility I created the parameter "work dimension".
Depending on the value entered in there, result may differ.
Let's assume a square image for simplicity.
If you enter 1000 the filter creates a work image of 500x500 and using tiles of 10x10 you get a mosaic of around 50x50.
If you enter 2000 tha mosaic will have around 100x100 tiles: different from the previous one.
See here an example:
entering 1000 I got this outcome:
Attachment:
red-rose-Mosaic-1000.jpg
red-rose-Mosaic-1000.jpg [ 500.61 KiB | Viewed 1036 times ]

while using 2000 I got this one:
Attachment:
red-rose-Mosaic-2000.jpg
red-rose-Mosaic-2000.jpg [ 1.91 MiB | Viewed 1036 times ]

It's up to the user to play with this parameter to get the mosaic he/she better likes

Dinasset: Thank you for the explanation. Your filter gives nice sharp outlines and makes a nice image.
Wallace & OMG: Beautiful outcomes.
