CMYKTool - a colour conversion utility
Copyright (c) 2009, 2010 by Alastair M. Robinson

http://www.blackfiveimaging.co.uk/index.php?article=02Software%2F05CMYKTool

CMYKTool is a new utility intended to build on the functionality of old CMYK separation plugin for the GIMP.

The key features:

* Convert images between ICC profiles.

* Support RGB and CMYK images as both input and output.

* When converting from RGB to CMYK, preserve pure black, preserve
pure grey, or attempt to underfill black to give a fake "overprint" effect.

* Images and their individual channels can be inspected

* As well as "inspect" mode, a soft proof mode to show how an image would
look when printed n screen of how an image would look when printed.

* Easy comparison of multiple images. This means it must be possible to flip
between them with minimal screen redrawing, and zoom-and-pan settings must
be synchronized between multiple images.

* Save JPEG, TIFF (8- and 16-bit) with or without embedded profiles.

CMYKTool a standalone program (run by CMYKTool.bat).

I added a plugin to run CMYKTool in menu GIMP (send a layer)
Colors -> Open layer im CmykTool...

To act as follows:

- Copy files from CMYKTolol / bin to Gimp X / bin
- Edit Gimp to CmykTool.py in lines 30 and 36 (it must be a valid path to cmyktool.exe).

Adobe ICC profiles can be downloaded from:
https://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3680

Package includes:

3 RGB profiles:
Adobe RGB (1998)
Apple RGB
ColorMatch RGB

12 CMYK profiles:
US Web Coated (SWOP) v2
US Web Uncoated v2
US Sheetfed Coated v2
US Sheetfed Uncoated v2
Coated FOGRA27 (ISO 12647-2:2004)
Web Coated FOGRA28 (ISO 12647-2:2004)
Uncoated FOGRA29 (ISO 12647-2:2004)
Coated FOGRA39 (ISO 12647-2:2004)
Japan Web Coated (Ad)
Japan Color 2001 Coated
Japan Color 2001 Uncoated

@MareroQ

I only see this in the zip
CMYKTool.bat
COPYING
ReadMe.txt

However a plugin to shell out to CMYKtool is a good idea, I use linux and now having problems with Separate+ in the Gimp 2.9 dev version.

As an aside, a video from 2012 starts off with separate+ but the second half, from 3 mins in, demos CMYKtool. Might interest some.

edit: oh, I remember this from before. The batch file only goes as far as Gimp 2.4 needs editing for Gimp 2.8

Thanks Rich.

I sent the wrong attachment. I corrected in the first post.

I'm afraid I haven't a clue what to do with this. I copied the two files from the bin folder to the bin folder, but I have no Gimp to CmykTool.py anywhere.

I have both Inkscape and GIMP installed, but when I just try to use the executable by itself it says I do not have libcairo2.dll installed. I tried to follow that up, but I have gone that path of trying to install GTK on my win7 machine before, and that was such a nightmare I just gave up.

I can use separate+ with no issues. Should I just stick with that, or can you please better explain how to make this tool work on my windows machine.

Sorry to be such a grump...

CMYKTool is 32 bit.
For a 64 bit probability correct location is ... / Gimp-2.x / 32 / bin (if it exists).
For proper operation, you must edit the attached file CMYKTool.bat (and Gimp tp CMYKTool.py - in terms of the proper administration of lokalzacji programs).
When running separate+ is enough :) (although CMYKTooL has a lot more options...).
