Elliptical Path From Active Layer Size? [SOLVED]

I'm looking for a script, or plugin.
That would be able to create an elliptical path.
Using the size of the active layer as it's parameters.
Dose something like this exist?

I'm almost sure Ofnuts (the paths' master) either has it already or can build it easily.

Ofnuts does have some really great path tools available and I have most of them.

These images below show what I already have installed.

This first image,
shows that I need to enter the X and Y parameters of the ellipse desired.

The second image,
shows a Circle, Ellipse and Oval as available shapes to create.
Each dialog also requires parameters to be set for the shape desired.
Some of which are more involved then others.

Lastly we have this image,
which shows still the need to enter parameters for the desired shapes.
With no elliptical shape available in it's dialog to chose from.

What I'm interested in,
is a script, or plugin.
That doesn't require manual setting of parameters to create an elliptical path,
but instead gets it's information from the active layer size.

The whole of the layer selected using fuzzy select with the threshold at maximum 255

Then the plugin applied

This is the exact plugin that I've been looking for.

I had it installed and then lost it,
due to an operating system reinstall and my failure to backup my Gimp user files.
I did search for it.
However,
I couldn't seem to find this particular one. :oops:

Nice work Diego!

I tried it out and these are my findings.

The DIEGO Create Ellipse plugin,
created an ellipse that seemed to have more drag point or nodes.

The Arakne Path Shape Creator plugin,
created this ellipse.
Using fewer nodes.

If something can be done about the amount of nodes used to create the ellipse.
I would with out a doubt use that plugin exclusively to create any needed elliptical path I might want.

Wallace, I'm not an expert on path: I did first the elliptical selection then used a "selection-to-path" gimp function, there is no control over the number of nodes; maybe Ofnuts can help.

Doesn't placing width and height (of your layer) in the values for the elliptical selection tool as "fixed" work? Then you need only do a selection to path.
For instance i am sure this could be scripted for a user choice ellipse size in SCM
Turn snap to grid on
Turn show grid on of course you would have to preset the grid size.
1) create a new doc.
2) create a new resized layer
3) fill layer with pattern/color/gradient whatever
4) create a fixed size (your layer size) ellipse
5) snap it to the grid
6) selection to path

I guess that Wallace is complaining that the "selection-to-path" gimp function creates a path with more "nodes" than he likes to have (your suggestion too makes use of selection-to-path)

maybe Ofnuts can do the code "path commands only" to create directly the path just setting four nodes:
- mid of top width
- mid of right height
- mid of bottom width
- mid of left height
and drawing the path

Creating paths from selections leaves slight imperfections.
You can see this clearly by putting out text.
Doing an Alpha To Selection of the text, then selection to path.
To create a path from the selection.

If you do a Text To Path and compare both paths.
You can see that the paths created using Text To Path are much more accurate.

I have no ellipse path in my script (thinking about it...) but you can create a circle path using my script, and then use the Scale tool in "path" mode to make it tangent to the edges of your layer.

That's what I've been doing.
After I lost the Arakne Path Shape Creator plugin.
Now that I have it back,
I use it.
With just a single click.
It creates an ellipse the same size as the image.
Using your script or the Arakne plugin method of doing it,
makes a very smooth and accurate ellipse, when compared to using selection to path.

In the meantime I found a script of Jonathan Stipe which creates different paths.
I only extracted the "ellipse" part and forced to only create an ellipse with the image dimension.
Here it is.
If you like to test it and see whether it can do well its task...

This script is just what I've been looking for.
Thank you very much for modifying it.
This script creates the ellipse without any distortion or extra nodes.
If it could be done,
I'd like it to show under:
Filter>Path>Ellipse.
