if you want a script to help you with this animation.
Attachment:
MapFoldAnimate.scm [7.51 KiB]
Downloaded 189 times

It'll be available under Script-Fu/Create New/Map Fold Animate

It'll create i think from 5 percent to 30 percent (5 percent increments) frames....
I just had to delete the original layer (bottom most layer) then removed alpha channels on all layers and made copies of the layers to animate the reverse direction.

TIN - I got a strange result on one of my attempts today and could not understand why the folds were not equal in size. So I had a quick look at your script and worked out why ;) - although my target was 'selected', I had some transparency on both sides of my target image.

So, I concluded that If the image which is the subject of the 'map fold' script does not occupy the full width of the canvas, then the folds will be based on the canvas width not the selected image width ... once realised, I think this is becomes a 'feature' not a 'bug' ...

Example OK

With transparency on each side

In the original script, that happens if you don't have an alpha channel in your pic. In the animation, it could be that or maybe you didn't eliminate the base layer?

After you run the animate script,
you should still have shadows, what i do is i manually remove alpha channel so it would have white background with shadow, then save as animation.
Otherwise i think the shadow disappears because of .gif conversion can't handle opacity or something like that not sure.

Also when you remove alpha channel the layer's background takes on the color of your context background...so you might have to that to white before starting to remove alpha channels.
This script helps with animation, it doesn't do everything hehehe

So I thought butterfly animation ... perfect; got beaten to the punch.

Nevermind an eagle will be even better ... got beaten to the punch.

Now looking for something quite different. :)
