this topic gave me an idea http://gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=13940
So i did a script that generates random abc's with random color.

will be available under Script-Fu/Create New/random font (although i probably should have called it random characters or something)
here is the option window for the script

I'll randomly create number of characters specified by options and random color of the font chosen and move it to a random spot on the image. You'll end up with many layers, just "Merge Visible Layers" to flatten it afterwards and use it as background to any shape you like like a large letter.

It is good but it would have been more useful if the user were a given a control over the choice of alphabet or 'word'.

Did it on a transparent layer, merged layers then mapped to sphere.

I guess if the selection was rectangle or square but i wouldn't know how to limit it to an odd shape selection since all i do now is move (translate) it to a (rand width) (rand height).

(if (> (car (gimp-selection-value image (rand width) (rand height))) 0)) you are inside the selected area regardless of it's shape

I'll look at my script tomorrow and change it so that it'll randomize inside selection and maybe even cut it to selection too.
