i have no idea why it's not working for you...it should create a new image and automatically shift focus to that new image window..at least for me it does.

This is quite annoying isn't it? havn't no clue to why it doesn't work.

You'll never guess what I suggested to Graechan.

Trandoductin have you thought of using the active layer with (gimp-item-get-image)

I don't think i ever got the active layer
I only use one get that's (gimp-image-get-layer-by-name) to grab the right layer for the right character.
I create a new image because i don't want it to mess with the .xcf that defines the font.
Or am I totally misunderstanding you?

I spent a fair bit of time making a frosted glass scrabble font and was really pleased with it at first. Then I tried it out in the custom font script and because I had made my letters so large any phrase produced a gigantic image, which when scaled down becomes blurred and loses the frosted glass texture.

... so either I will try scaling it first at individual layer level or back to square one and start again or I just have to create images with only 3 letters ... so I will post just one for posterity ... live and learn

... and I am only worth 6 points :hehe

This custom font only had 'caps' so I added the additional lower case layers by duplicating the layers and renaming
Wallace is any chance you may have done all the layers?

I ran the script in both modes and I got nothing. It should be able to work whether you use single window mode or not. It is possible for it to be modified so the script can be ran in both modes?

any errors?
maybe you typed in a character that isn't defined.

Yes, I get errors when running the script. I only use the characters known on my keyboard. How many layers do we have to create before running the script and does the font to layers script have to be ran before using the script?

no you don't need font to layers script...you can download one of the .xcf files from the first post with some font defined.
you only need one layer, but that will only define one character for example if you have a single layer named "a.png" then you can only write messages that are made up the letter a like "aaa"
so if you want to write a message then you have to define more layers for more characters. ideally you should have at least 26 layers to define all letters of the alphabet..that's why you should download one of the .xcf font files from the first post and try to type a message that has characters from those defined layers.
