Serious Tom, it may be that you have to have a folder in patterns where you keep the patterns you want the filter uses. All patterns must start in the same way. for instance: folder named MyWood, inside you have 20 or 25 patterns starting each one wood_1; another wood_2; etc. Then you set in your filter wood_
the filter looks for that kind of patterns. Make the same thing for each kind of material you want to use. MyGlass; MyLeather; MyGradients...

Tom,
the error you mention does refer to the instruction which uses the filter "Chisel Or Carve", which is a prerequisite, as stated in the first post.
Could you download/install it again? You find in under Gimp-chat Scrit&Plug-ins

Still no luck.
Reinstalled both TexturizeByColourArea and chisel or carve.
I made a folder called MyWood and put 6 wood patterns in it named-
MyWood001.pat MyWood002.pat and so on.
I've put the folder in C/users/Tom/Gimp2.8/patterns
The error showed C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\32\lib\gimp\2.0\python\gimpfu.py
So I put the same MyWood folder in C:Program Files\Gimp 2\share\gimp\2.0\patterns
This is my new error

Tom, it's not the name of the folder which is the discriminant, it's the name of the pattern.
Thus, look into your patterns and see how they are named: enter a small set of characters which you find in there (once I just run it with entering only "ff" because I have a lot of patterns which contain "ff".
If you have patterns which contain "wood", just enter wood.
If you have patterns which contain "blue", just enter "blue"
Just to start.
Later on you will create your set of patterns you like.

sorry, I didn't read appropriately your message:
are those patterns you created active?
do you see them in the patterns list?

maybe you simply need to "refresh" the patterns

I didn't refresh the patterns, so I did that and it run a bit longer.
I used Wood on Filter for names as I have Wood patterns with names like Wood#1, Wood#2 and such.
But wound up with an error running everything as default except used Wood for pattern names.
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\32\lib\gimp\2.0\python\gimpfu.py", line 736, in response

File "C:\Users\Tom\.gimp-2.8\plug-ins\DIEGO_QUANTIZE_TexturizeByColourArea.py", line 419, in TexturizeByColourArea
    False)                   #keep)
TypeError: wrong number of parameters

Love the results I have seen by the way !

to still get that error looks strange, unless you have two different "script_fu_chisel" in your system (and one has a different number of parameters), maybe you can check
can you post one of your results?

I had a script named FU_effects-selection_chisel.scm
I took it out of the scripts folder and stored it for now.
Then I tried your script again and no errors.... Thanks !

thanks Tom
nice result
you now may play with the filter using a greater number of nuances (19, 25) and a random set of textures (enter only a few characters), to see what you get, it could be surprising (have a look at Issabella's tries with hundreds of textures...)
(in the console you get a message with the number of textures found by the filter to work with...)

I'm so happy to see this thread active with more nice results. Tom, Lyle, Dalia and more to come :bigthup
As Lyle says, it is a gem so I enjoy this filter so much in such variety possibilities. :)
