I was looking around for a bar code filter for gimp and I've come up empty. Anyone know where I can find one?

I haven't seen any barcode scripts, but I have seen some barcode fonts. I'll have to look to see if I still have any to share.

I've got a few barcode fonts and a few brushes. I'm looking for a script because I might be too lazy to use a brush or a font.

Hi,

If you are looking for a Gimp script or filter I can't help but I came across a program a few years ago called Zint Barcode Studio 2.4. This program produces barcodes and saves them as a .png file. Depending on what you are trying to achieve perhaps you could import this png barcode file into Gimp. A portable version of this program can be found at PortableApps.com. Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Bob

There are plenty of sites with online Barcode/QR code generators...

There is an old Perl script for Barcodes at the Plug-in Registry that's used as a front end in Gimp. Not sure about it's status. Both Inkscape and Scribus have Barcode plug-ins.

I saw that script on a site as I searched for "Barcode filter in Gimp." I just didn't know if it would work in Windows, so I didn't bother with it.

I downloaded Zint Barcode Studio Portable and loaded a barcode as a layer. Is this the kind of things you're looking to do?
(This was just a 2 layer subtraction blend as an example.)

I'm looking to create the barcode only.

This is with Zint Barcode Studio Portable.
You have all sorts of options, with the text or numbers below the barcode or with different formats. It's free and worth looking at. I would like a Gimp plugin for it. Maybe a Shellout function??

Just an idea based on Resize with ImageMagick.py by Berthold Hinz and Zint using the command line.
You need a good coder to development.

ps. /Edit: 20-06-2016/ Attachment deleted-it was a failed attempt to create a plugin.

That's what I'm looking for. I'll give it a go. Thanks MareroQ! :) Do I have to install the Zint application or can I just use the .py file?

EDIT: I tried using just the .py file, and I get 2 errors. I have attached a screenshot to give a clearer explanation.

Plugin requires additional libraries (zint.exe, zint.dll, libpng15.dll) in folder Gimp 2/bin.
File zlib1.dll is already in Gimp.
I noticed another (restriction) - open file and Gimp must be on the same disk.
It needs further code changes - maybe someone will try to?

I got it to work but it does give me errors from time to time.

A small step forward:
It works only for saved files - now uses the temporary file

Remained the problem of lack of acceptance of the spaces in the text

In menu: Filters/Render/Barcode Zint...

ps. /Edit: 20-06-2016/ Attachment deleted-it was a failed attempt to create a plugin.

Thinking does not hurt...
The latest version - accept spaces in the text.

These seem to be pretty nice! A couple came up with a blank white layer, but I'll play to figure out why. I wish it would allow you to make the QR Codes larger. If I increase the size of the image, it gets blurry. SVG has been throwing some errors.
