excellent outcome, Pat !
this filter is a bit "crazy" -as you've certainly noted- thus the beauty of the outcome depends a lot from the choice of the source image, but I can't say which ones are good and which ones bad; it's always a kind of "try and see" for me, and I guess the same for other people experimenting it.
Thanks for having entered in the game.

Pat, your first outcome is nice. Dinasset is right as some pictures/photos may give no good results but others are great and are really appealing. :)

Still experimenting, because sometimes I'm hot happy with the outcome, I've added the possibility to ask for an alternative result.
I post this enhanced release here but with the same suffix (b) because when asking the "standard" style it generates the same outcome as before, only selecting Alternative 1 or Alternative 2 (Style) you get different outcomes.

I repost also the Gimpressionist presets, because I've added one in there.
You may create and save your own and use them, just selecting "user preset" and entering the name under which you saved it.

a warning note on the use

Even if there are 3 possible different outcomes, this does not mean that we get always at least one nice outcome, all 3 can be non satisfactory.
At that point there are still the usual possible interventions on the layers modes (if the image is not flattened).

An example:

IMO all 3 outcomes which follow are not fully satisfactory (source image from DeviantArt)

they were produced using the 3 styles: standard, alternative1, alternative2

...but we can try to "adjust" something:

first outcome: desaturated top layer and set to multiply

a_celebration_by_lucytherescuedcat-d8zk03y (pointillistic)-b-desat+mult-top.jpg [ 2.6 MiB | Viewed 1015 times ]

second outcome: top layer set to saturation

a_celebration_by_lucytherescuedcat-d8zk03y (pointillistic)-b1-satur-top.jpg [ 2.32 MiB | Viewed 1015 times ]

third outcome: top layer set to value

a_celebration_by_lucytherescuedcat-d8zk03y (pointillistic)-b2-value-top.jpg

IMO results have been improved, with little effort

dinasset, thank you so much. Not only did it work flawlessly but, it is fast! Will play around with it with other subjects. In the meantime, the first run of the plugin and then as you did desaturating the top layer and setting to multiply.

After running the plugin, placed original as top layer and changed mode to "Color".

Yes, Dalia, this is another amendment when outcome is not nice.
BTW, in my experiments I never got a nice outcome having a source image with a predominant "noisette" colour.

sorry my friends to update the filter again, but this is a collateral effect of experimenting...

a simple amendment to improve the randomization of the generated nuances
edit: and bugs fixes
