I have uploaded a new version of my Translucent Texts script:

Attachment:
TextFX-translucent-texts-v101.zip [6.38 KiB]
Downloaded 502 times

Main changes:
Added Force Text Colour option to add colour to the translucent texts ( after comments by Pat625)
Added caption justification options (after comments by Graechan)

Examples of coloured translucent texts at full opacity (they look better to my eye with the layer opacity reduced):

Examples of justified captions:

Skinnyhouse: I am unable to see the last few choices at the bottom of the long dialog box. It will not let me shrink it down so that the scroll program would work. Is anyone else having this problem?

You need to install the Script-Fu Scrolling Interface.

You can pick it up here.

Edit:
I'm sorry but this won't work with python plug-ins.
You could use AltDrag.
Download it by clicking here.

re: Long dialog box -Pat 625

Oh dear Pat my script just seems to want to give you a tough time. Apologies...

I was concerned about the length of the dialog box but it does not extend past the edge of the screen on my machine so didn't realise this potential ptifall. I assumed (wrongly then) that the interface would just wrap around or add a scroll bar to a large dialog (as in the screenshot from Rod's post higher up).

Hope Wallace's suggestion (thank you Wallace) is of use to you.

Am currently re-shelving and clearing out garage so have limited time at the moment to explore options - wonder if others may have interface/dialog solutions or tips - but I will see what I can do.

Actually i use the gimpfu.py by Bytes and Pixels. It arranges everything into vertical columns. :)
This has to go in your \GIMP 2\32\lib\gimp\2.0\python folder and replaces the original. REMOVE the original and KEEP IT SOMEWHERE SAFE! In case you need it again. :bigthup

RESTART GIMP after installing this file so it can be re compiled.

Remember when you update GIMP in the future you will need to re-install this python file. That is if you still want to.

A little garage respite today...

To Pat625:
Hurray - glad you managed to get a result at last - very nice. Hope you feel it was worth the wait.
The various tools suggested by folk to display python scripts with over-sized dialogs should prove handy for anyone having the same problem. Many thanks for those.

I thought that the discussion on the link included by MareroQ was very interesting.
Quote:

Long dialogs are rather a mixed blessing of number of options versus size; when I started my script it basically put translucent text on the screen and I then dragged and dropped the layer into its final position.

After that discussion, dare I add any more options to the dialog as a result of your wish-list MareroQ?

To Kimba:
I do not think I can help you but could you provide any more details ie OS, version, screen-size etc?

Skinnyhouse: I would think that you can add as many items as you wish to the dialog box. As we have found here, there is more than one way to remedy visualization of the long box.

Thank you so much for this script, Skinnyhouse. I'm sure I'll use it a lot. Also Thanks Rod to solve the scrolling bar. :tyspin

Thank Bytes and Pixels. :)
But you are very welcome. I hate not being able to see a whole filter dialog window. :gaah

Thankyou for the AltDrag heads-up Wallace, that relieves many a headache.

Kimba: Regarding your problem with the text going off the top of your image: Did you leave a large enough vertical margin for the size of your text.Trying to reproduce your error I found that if you leave the vertical margin at 10 or 20 and have a large font, the top gets cut off. I hope this is helpful.
