Hi Gimpsters, am new on the Gimp & the forum and I have been enjoying this wonderful program since then. I came across some wonderful works, and I found that we don't have a script to achieve it. Is there another way to achieve this in Gimp:

Help will be most appreciated.

There is polygonize in G'MIC a gimp plugin which does this but it isn't probably what you are looking for.

Welcome to Gimp Chat. :)

I do not believe there is any script or plug-in that can do this. It is a very interesting effect.
I would think you could make some custom animated brushes and just use the original image as a template to fill the shapes in the face.

@Rod, I sincerely appreciate your tip. Please do you have a sample or tutorial on how to use & make animated brushes in GIMP and how to use the original image as template to fill shapes into the image. Thanks in advance

I love the OP's idea...that would be awesome to have a script, or set of scripts, to achieve that effect!

Firstly I would open the image of the face you want to use. Then posterize it to get as few colors as possible. Second there are tutorials on how to make brushes here at Gimp Chat.
I would make my brushes slightly off color than the original image.
The rest will be up to you and your creativity.

I have been able to see how to create my animated brushes. But how to fill the brushes automatically into the cartoonizer/posterize image is my challenge. Don't want to individually paint the brushes into it. Thanks for the head start.

If you select each color separately you can paint only inside your selected areas. This may help. Also you can in tool options for the brushes adjust spacing.

It really is a cool effect. G'MIC's "Shapeism" filter is the only thing i see that will come close. But it doesn't make rectangles, only squares.

I still think an animated brush or 3 is the best way to do this.
Scripting it could be possible if the image is first posterized to lower amount of colors say 3-5 and then allow the script to draw within each color with a animated brush already created.
Could be as simple as the script painting within a user selection. :) That way the script doesn't even have to see a color other than the FG color.
1) Open your image
2) Cartoonize it
3) Make a selection
4) Change the FG color
5) Run the filter/enter your values for brush

Of course the animated brushes would already be created and the user could choose a brush within the script dialog widget.
Actually the script could theoretically
1) Cartoonize the image
2) Find the FG color
3) Use the USER defined brush, spacing and size values within the widget
4) Paint in the selection

The user would need only
1) Make a selection
2) Change the FG color
3) Put the brush values in after loading the script

This is it done, posterized to 4 colours, cartoonized, and using square shapeism. Of course the background colour is the reddish orange.
Oh and I meant to say the one good thing about shapeism is it contours your picture. You can especially see it on larger pictures.

@ Rod I noticed a custom option in shapeism but it only seems to work on stars??

This is a quick play with some rune brushes. Not quite rectangles but seems like it is something similar.

Image

This was just opening the image and using a transparent layer over the original as a canvas for the shapes.
I just used the color picker for colors that matched close enough. Of course if it was cartoonzed it would probably be closer to the outcome the original poster wants.

If shapeism could support loading animated brushes and setting the blend modes would do the trick. @Rod. You are appreciated.

Try contacting David via the Scripts and Plug-ins/G'MIC board. He may just oblige your request. Can't hurt to ask. :) Also see if he will add a rectangle into the shapes selection menu. :bigthup
