Py Script for use with Gimp 2.8. (English language only.)

I have taken the core of my py script for creating a joined up text using a custom unicode font and produced a version that allows the user to select choices from a range of common letter variations. I have tried to test for inconsistencies but if you do find any letter joins that do not work please let me know.

The plugin and associated font are zipped here...

With the font and plugin installed the resulting text file can be copied and pasted to be used by any other script to manipulate the text. Example shown below...

Hi There,
I have downloaded and installed the plugin and the 'custom font'. This script doesn't join the capital alphabet with small alphabet. Is it so?
One is limited to use this script with some kind of 'custom font'. Is it so?
Thanks.

I have also failed at understanding how to use this script. Could you give further instruction as to the steps used and what is trying to be achieved? Some screenshots would also help. Thank you.

Rashid:

You are correct this is a script that makes use of a custom font and is therefore definitely limited in its scope - you either need it or you don't. If you examine the font in a character map you will see how the script makes use of a set of four characters for each letter to mimic the type of joins that humans use in their flowing joined-up handwriting. The upper case letters have no joining strokes to the lower case characters in this font/script. Sorry to disappont you.

I shall try and cobble something together to clarify how to make the script work in real life. Thanks for the interest!

Pat 625:

Another way to use the JoinerVariations script is with filters that work on alpha selections. I have a number that I can access from my Filters > Alpha to Logo submenu. These include things like Alien Glow, Bovination and Neon. With the joined-up text layer created you can right click (Windows) the text layer in the layers dialog and select 'Alpha to Selection' to select the text outline. Then choose one of the Alpha to Logo filters to work on the selection and have a play - some work quite nicely others may need more work.

The example below uses a few of the filters - straight out of the box.
