Just some warnings:
a) if you use a target B&W image, the result is similar to the use of Gimp Colorize, being all the pixels with R=G=B
b) if you use as source an image with very few colour nuances, you may get bad results

I can't figure out how to use it.
Where do you put the target image and the source image? Are they stacked in 2 layers or two separate images in gimp?

After I used the filter (tried to use it) I got the following error message.
Image

Then when I tried to save one of the images as a jpg I got an error mentioning py and whatever. Had to shut down gimp, go delete filter then re-open gimp in order to save an image as a jpg. I saved the images I wanted to use as xcf files.

O,
1.you need to have Stretch RGB Colours installed
see http://gimpscripts.com/2016/08/stretch-rgb-colors/
2.you start the filter from the target image and make reference to the source image, which must be already open
3.I do not understand

When someone downloads the package of the filter from Gimpscripts, then unzip it, there are:
- the filter (zipped)
- example images
- a text file "Transfer Colours.txt" which should be read to have a first idea of the filter
in that file it's written:

CatturaTextFilterDescr.PNG

(Stretch RGB Colours is a prerequisite)

O,
re-reading your last sentence:
"Then when I tried to save one of the images as a jpg I got an error mentioning py and whatever. Had to shut down gimp, go delete filter then re-open gimp in order to save an image as a jpg. I saved the images I wanted to use as xcf files."
I'm pretty sure THERE WAS NO NEED TO DELETE THE FILTER, when you restart Gimp there are no filters active in memory, so it could stay safe in the plug-ins folder w/o any problem, except you could not run it until you download/install the prerequisite filter.

Leave it to me to make something hard out of something simple. Very nice filter, Diego!

Sadly, this doesn't work with my McGimp. If it uses g'mic then that is probably why, as mcgimps gmic doesn't play nicely with most of the pythons than use it.
I used to follow a tutorial that did something similar to this, it used two charts, and you matched the new lines to the source lines. It was great to match skin tones when you wanted to add another person to a photo, but I have not a clue where to find it anymore. I really need to organize my files better.

I read the workflow, it does not mention g'mic,
but did You install "diego_stretch_rgb_colours.py"?
That is required for this one to work. Readme says also that all platforms are supported.

Nice plugin btw, best color transfer I've seen this far thank You.

Yes, I had read O's posts and added the stretch py. I have several PY's that will not work with mcgimp. I should really upgrade to Partha's newest but I forgot how to save and re-add the stuff I put in.

It looks strange....
All functions used are basic Gimp functions.

But the error says the system does not find the ancillary plug-in Stretch RGB Colours.
Can you try to use it directly? i.e. calling Stretch Rgb Colours (provided you see it on the menus)

I don't really know how to use terminal! I am not sure what to type in exactly, and then what to do with the results.
