Here is a new version of the Joined-upText plugin - version 1.06 - intended to work on Gimp version 2.8. If the old script worked on earlier versions of Gimp this should also work too.
The zipped folder includes a new font weight (and two earlier fonts) with updated kerning information to improve their appearance when not used in joined-up mode.
This script requires the installation of ItalicVariations-v106, ItalicBoldVariations-v106 and ItalicBlack Variations-v106 True Type fonts. It is not compatible with earlier versions of the fonts so it is best to remove older versions of the script as well the older fonts to avoid problems.

The filter can be accessed via Filters > Text FX > Joined-up Fonts... dialog. Here is the usual link to a topic about viewing large dialog boxes in py scripts.
