how did you get the sewn look?

I used the "Custom Font" plugin and used the "Patches.xcf" file I downloaded.

I downloaded the demo pic from your gimplearn site, changed the colors to match the image created with the script. Then it was just cut and paste. It took some feathering and painting edges for blending, but I think it came out ok. Not perfect, but ok.
