This map doesn't do forest. I plan to script forest part separately (haven't even looked at the forest part tutorial yet).

more details here -> Render map Script for GIMP

Don’t be afraid to start over. It’s a new chance to rebuild what you want.

Not sure why but my maps didn't come out anything like yours Tin, I followed your instructions to the letter in GL.. trying to figure it out. I could tweak individual layers but don't think that will help much, a lot of the grass and other land features seem to be a weird colour and spread out into the sea!

An ambitious project. I recall that the original tutorial runs to 3 long-ish pdf's. Looking forward to 2 and 3. ;)

This in linux,

The only thing to remember with linux is it case-sensitive, The two white-on-black layers 'Land Start' and 'Mountain Start' need caps.

Excellent work :bigthup :tyspin , I love the wispy white patches along the shoreline, and the variations that can be had by running the script with the same base pair layers

I see I'm the only one experiencing problems with this, so it's obviously something wrong with my Windows 10, PC or GIMP settings(?) or some such thing. I tried making the map so it was an island rather than a parcel of land with coastline, but still hit the same problem, colours have gone mad and I'm obviously not getting the desired results hmmm... back to square one.

I think its your gradient setting that gives these colours, I altered mine to abstract and got this

Impressed with the script (now I've got it working) - it seems as though there is a slight loss of detail if the image is too small (guess that's normal considering the processing involved) so the larger the image the better for keeping detail that you start with... I did a North America map :)

Thanks! - the technique to generate the white coastal outlines took a bit of playing but is one of the visual signatures of maps created following my tutorial.
