I do not have any script or special plugin for paths.
Which ones do you think are indispensable?

Depends what you want to create/achieve. I think many of us would agree that the ones by Ofnuts are real good.
Can't name one, have almost every one installed.



He's got also other tools on another page, these are mainly for other type of work/corrections.
But I want to mention layer straightener, it's a path tool and a good one it is. Previously you had to use slow script for same thing.
Layer aligner is another I use.



If you want to create shapes, there is the Shape path Creator v8 by Arakne, it's python and works in 2.10.
For a quick simple shape I use the shapes script by Jon Stipe.
Ofnuts' path plug-ins are located under various vector menus, to access them you switch from layers to paths tab and right-click the path.

A plugin form, it interests me and I will look on GC if I find tutorials for Jon Stipe and Arakne... or so I come back to ask my questions.
I have not practiced much with the paths because often discouraged when I want to put a text along a circle, the text is upside down and make a horizontal or vertical symmetry does not solve the problem.

A real PITA. I think it is caused by an ad-blocker. I had the same until just recently when it started working again. Had to use a different browser (firefox) from my usual one just for the downloads.

You're right, I wrongly accused Bitdefender, I just saw that if I authorize uBlock origin, download is possible!

When flipping paths make sure the flip tool is in paths mode.

Me, I would start with ofn-path-to-shape because it will create a circle with a known beginning and end. If you put thes at 06:00, then you just need to use the "centered" option of the text.

Otherwise, there is a bug in 2.10 (reported, but I don't remember it is fixed and published) where the path from an ellipse selection is counter-clockwise, which invalidates all text-along-path tutorials (that expect that path to be clockwise). A quick fix is to flip the path (or flip the image if it only contains the path).

You will find the either Ofnuts ofn-path-to-shape.py or shape-path.scm create good clean paths. A circle will have just four nodes at quarter points. Why do I use that ancient shape-path.scm, because it is a script-fu and I can load it as-required using Ofnuts collection manager.

Back to your questions about text around a circle. Well known, that I prefer using just Gimp tools, rather than a plugin for text along a path and this does tie in with your other question about dynamic versus fixed text boxes. You really need to be in a dynamic text box.

The basics. Using a path from a circle selection as in (1) Text path is upside down. Flip the circle path, in path mode and horizontal. Just a single click in the canvas (2)




That gets the text path in the correct orientation (3) Now rotate it to the required position.
Text on the bottom of the circle. Flip the circle path this time first horizontal then vertical option. Just a single click in the canvas for each option (4)



That gives text in correct orientation, rotate to position as required (5)
Offset from the circular path. That is where the dynamic text box comes in. With a "Enter" before the text it offsets outside the circle (6). (A "Enter" after the text will offset inside the circle)



As with everything Gimp - just experiment.

Yeeees, vertical path with 3 points. Shapes->On segments->Circles.
Reference: Radius, segments: Overlapping. This is awesome way to create aligned circles.
Then Edit->Break path apart and use text-along-path.
