Mike Licence Plate plugin for Gimp 2.10

Tin Tran wrote a cool plugin to make Licence Plates called "Mike Licence Plate". It doesn't work with Gimp 2.10, so I edited the script so that it now works. Be sure to have an image open before you run the script.

it works for me in 2.10.. windows 64 bit. My outcome is just flat. Doesn't look like a real license plate.

It requires LayerFX. Perhaps you don't have that installed?

It looks like no bump-mapping has been utilized.

It requires LayerFX. Perhaps you don't have that installed?

I have Layerfx installed.. this license plate came from Tin's plugin.. not your updated version.

I am now using the version that racer- x has modified in order to get it to work in 2.10 and I still get a somewhat flat version of a license plate:

Get rid of Gimp 2.10.14, it has a problematic bump-map. This has been discussed numerous times already. It effects many plugins that use bump-map, such as LayerFX.

I don't use LayerFX.scm, only LayerFX.py is all you need.

It won't do anything until you point to the bump map you created, either on another layer or image.

Getting rid of Gimp 2.10.14 won't solve the bump map problem.

Does your layerfx work? Example "Bevel and Emboss"

I forgot how Bevel and Emboss work with Layerfx. I know it needs a layer, but what type of layer?

You can use a simple text layer.

This is what I get: I ran it on the default settings:

To me, it still looks flat.

Here's another example:

It's flat because your Gimp 2.10.14 has issues with the bump-map. You'll see it effects many plugins that use bump-map.

When ever I use other plugins that use bump-map, the outcomes for them, come out fine.

Mackenzieh, as you can see from the thread, I was having some problems with Mike License Plate but, I was not using Gimp 2.10.14. I had, I believe, an outdated layerfx.py plugin and an unneeded layerfx.scm script. I deleted the layerfx.scm script, used the layerfx.py plugin that Racer-X provided and also his updated MikeLicensePlate.py plugin.

All of this worked for me, but I also wasn't using 2.10.14 which is known to have issues. I know it's hard to change Gimp versions for many people that are using PPA's, for example, but you should try. You probably shouldn't upgrade at this time to 2.10.5 or 2.10.7, which is out now on the AppImage site, because then you have issues with changing fonts and gradients, etc... in varied plugins.

I downgraded, using the AppImage, to 2.10.12 and everything works. Again, I don't know your OS or in which way you are installing Gimp but, it's worth a try to ditch 2.10.14 and try another version if it's not too great a problem.

is an old license plate I made months ago using 2.10.14. It just doesn't work. I thought that is how they were supposed to look until I read this thread and saw the good examples of how it's really supposed to be.

Hi, thanks for the reply. The OS, I have is Windows 10 64 Bit. I just deleted layerfx.scm. I have the updated layerfx.py file that racer-x updated. Gimp.org still doesn't have the new version up yet, so I'll wait on that.
