Funny how well known hackers left the $20k prize on the table with Chrome, but the other browsers can't say that.

Lyle, really just throw IE out the window and get Chrome, or Firefox, or Opera, or Iron, or anything but IE, Anything

amen, BROTHER!!

I'd rather shoot myself in the head than use ie.

lol

First, apologies for taking over your thread Rod. ;)

Anyway, back on IE8 (XP VM). GIMP, by the way, installed quite fast in Ubuntu, and so did G'MIC, but it was 1.4.8. I had to run terminal and sudo Nautilus in order to overwrite the gmic_gimp file for me to update it, but update it did. Might even try to re-compile MAZE5 later (lol). Anyway, back to the subject, it was a cool display Rod (sound too of course as I said earler). I wonder why IE8 doesn't see your animation? Weird. :)

That was 'brilliant' Rod is there a tutorial or could you create one showing how to make a flash animation with sound from a GIF or multi frame image, as I am failing in my attempts to do so.

You should be able to add the sound through the dialog for SWFExport plug-in.
You need a couple things before you start -
1 - the python fu setup in Gimp
2 - the swfexport.py plug-in
3 - flash player
You will need all your layers saved as a GIF
Next -
Go to Image/Mode/Select RGB mode (because usually GIF are Indexed), or SWF Export will not be usable (it will be grayed out in the menu list)
Now go to File/Export SWF File
This dialog will pop up
Image

Export to - save your swf executable where you want it saved (can be anywhere)
Add audio - yes -
Wav-MP3 file - browse to the file for the sound you want (many are down-loadable on the net for free)
File name - name your output swf file
Transitions can stay at no for now
Flash version - select the 8 (most people have 8 or higher)
Frame rate - number ms you want each frame to stay opened in the movie. (25-30 is usually fine)
JPG quality can be set to 100 here if the image is small this will give you a bigger file if you have large animations (80-85 for quality is norm)
Link - link the swf to a website (useful for clickable buttons)
Remove temp file - yes
Loop animation - yes if small file
Loop audio - yes if not a problem like if the sound will contiue on one page and could get annoying.
I looped mine because i know folks will be going to the next page and wont be constantly listening to annoying sound on one page :lol
You can choose whichever you wish.
That's it select ok and double click your saved swf to view it in the flash player.
You can attach swf files here at Gimp Chat via the up-loader.
It's not real hard - you probably didn't change the image mode which took me a few moments to figure out. :)

Have fun!

Wow Lyle you opened a browser just for me? :lol
Thankyou

I used Flash player 8 for the flash animation the browser you use may have to be above that version i am guessing.
Newest i believe is 10 :)
But as the others said IE sucks.Well in my opinion anyways. :P

Thanks Rod I now have something new to play with and enjoy.

Something went wrong here

You can attach swf files here at Gimp Chat via the up-loader.

Only partially for you (but it gave me the excuse I needed to open Ubuntu; lol). I needed to update the Oracle Guest drivers anyway since I upgraded it the other day. Also, like I mentioned, I postponed GIMP installation for long enough. Very glad I decided to go all out 64 bit Natty. Natty Narwhal is much better then Maverick Meerkat and glad it did not take long for the major release (Meerkat was an interim release and it had a lot of bugs from the get go; went back to Lynx and quite fast thanks to Virtualbox Snapshot; lol). Did I get off subject again? lol

:)

The way the board is currently configured only global moderators and administrators can use the flash tag. I'm not sure why the board was originally configured that way but it is.

Registered members can play flash videos using the BBvideo tag Image but there are no visible transport controls (stop/start/pause). You have to right click the video to stop it. Having flash play automatically in a post can be annoying, especially if there is sound involved.

I'm not opposed to making changes to allow the flash tag but I what I don't want are flash based signatures. I should be able to disallow flash in the sigs.

Any opinions on this?

I don't really have an opinion on this (shocked?) but I do have a few questions...

1. Other than filetype, what makes flash sigs any worse than animated gif sigs? Flash can create more fluid effects than animations with a significantly smaller footprint.

2. Is this just a sound issue?

There are two reasons, the main reason is the sound issue, the other is resources. Having an entire page of posts with flash sigs can suck resources, both in your browser and on the server side (space and bandwidth).

There is nothing more annoying that an animated flash sig that blasts sounds at you when you mousover. Jmo.

I don't like flash or anyway video starting automatically.

Actually i have no problem about because of a FF extension , but before was quite annoying (In general not referred to GC )
so i like see embedded video but not video that start automatically

also in case of slow connection that is really a pain

The reason I posted this Flash the way I did with a URL and using this Imageoption was to find a solution that would not play automatically but would like to have a static image of the flash with a play button, as the sound annoys me as well and I put it there. I hope GNU-TUX will remove his demonstration and we can all leave Rods post. I am sooo glad I did not select the play sound continuously option.

Sorry about that Graechan. I guess that proves how annoying it can be. :lol

Your workaround is good. You can upload .swf files using the upload button and link to it with text or with an image like below.
