I liked this old script ..
Works almost fine in Gimp 2.8 ... hangs a bit
Would like it to work in 2.10.20 (Windows) too.

Hi Ineke, I sent a pm to the author Graechan, to see if he can fix it, that if no one here fix it first.

Would be cool if Graechan could get this to work and post it again; I always liked packed bubbles. :)

Good thing you posted the script. Hopefully someone can update it for you. I don't think Graechan comes around much anymore. (Last visit was March 2019) I know I used to have fun with his scripts.

Hello,
I also worked a lot with this script and would
be very happy to adapt it to Gimp 2.10.

Regards Hardy

The error reports "Unbound Variables" with G'mic. This script was likely written to work with older versions of G'mic. Has anyone tried it with an old G'mic version?

;22-6-013[G'MIC] Pack sprites : "-gimp_pack_sprites 5,30,0,0,1,2,1,width,height,"
;ORIGINAL[G'MIC] Pack sprites : "-gimp_pack_sprites 5,30,0,1,2,1,width,height,"

I have built-in Gimp 2.8 (Partha place) with G'mic (windows)
it works reasonably well there.

What version of G'mic is running on your 2.8?

Pack sprites works fine in current G'mic v 2.91, but the settings are a bit different than those on the script.

Changes made:
- adapted to GMIC > 2.9,
- adjusting the new scope: plug-in-bump-map,
- layer mode names changed,
- changed deprecated procedure:
1. gimp-selection-load -> gimp-image-select-item,
2. gimp-image-get-layer-position -> gimp-image-get-item-position,
3. gimp-drawable-set-name -> gimp-item-set-name.
In menu Gimp:
- File/Create/Logos/Air Bubbles...
- Filters/Alpha to Logo/Air Bubbles...

Script creates a brush from the mask's clipboard - it is recommended to choose Paintbrush before running the script.
I didn't have time for thorough tests - when you find any error, post a screenshot of the message.

I haven't downloaded MareroQ's revised script yet, but you can use G'mic "Pack Sprites" with any shape you want easily enough.

Just learned how to do this today and I like my manual method much better than a very limited script.

I tried to fix the script, but the gmic call is not working. It doesn't produce any errors, just creates ONE bubble. So, like you, I manually used Pack Sprites in GMIC and found that if you (example: your stars) create more than one layer of a star (I used the Wilber brush in 5 different colors on 5 layers) it produces a much better result.

I recommend watching the video to anyone trying to use Pack Sprites in GMIC. The link is under the settings when you call it up in Patterns/Pack Sprites

Funny, I never even noticed the link to the video until your post. That opens up even more opportunities. Very cool indeed.

When it comes to Pack Sprites preset, I agree with you, racer-x. :)

I tried it with with 4 layers of colored stars and it definitely gives it more texture and looks cool.

Just curious. Are you using David’s settings from the video or your own?

I used my own settings, it can be a bit unpredictable. Lot's of trial and error. Here I was playing with gears.
