I have tried to install the v3 .py file in the two directories gimp creates and it still does not show up. Any help on this would be great.

These are the directories I have it saved in.

/Users/johnlettiere/Library/Application Support/GIMP/2.10/plug-ins

/Applications/GIMP-2.10.app/Contents/Resources/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins

this is the name of the file.

da_big_gimpin_script_v3.py

This is driving me crazy.

Don't use mac, but if its anything like Linux, you must make the python script executable before it will show up.

This is what there limited support said for me to do, which I have know idea how to do it.

Mac install
navigate to the file in the correct folder for plug ins. Then right click the name in top right of finder and choose copy path. Type chmod +x (and then paste that path). Then quit and restart GIMP

We do have members who use Mac. You may have to wait for them to show up and let you know what to do.

It's easier to do in Linux: Right-Click on file and select properties. Select "Permissions" tab and tick Make Executable.

If you can't do it with a file manager like you can in linux you use the terminal app on mac catalina 10.15.

I think racer-x is right on this. Why use a mac when you have a totally free operating system without the layer of obfuscation needed to hide the underlying bsd unix?

I had to download GIMP via MacPort and place all my python plugins within the MacPort\GIMP file system. Irritated me enough to stop using the Mac and moved to Linux.

I am not sure if you have figured this issue out yet, but after doing a little research I have figured it out.

Open Gimp > Click "Gimp - 2.0" in the top left by the apple logo > select "preferences" > on the left hand side of the preferences window drop down "folders" > click "plug-ins" > click "/Applications/GIMP-2.10.app/Contents/Resources/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins" > in the top rightish corner of the window there is a little gray looking file cabinet, click it and it will open a finder menu > click on the "plug-ins" folder > right click on your finder icon in your toolbar and open a new finder window > navigate to your biggimpin.py file can right click to copy it from the newest finder window > go back to the finder window with the "plug-ins" folder open and paste the file > quit the Gimp app and open it again > It should now show up in the top toolbar to the right of "filters".

Sorry for the wall of text but I wanted to give the exact steps as I am a Mac user and used to be an AppleCare Tech.

Please let me know if you have issues and I can try to help. I figured this out by doing some general googling.

if you want to see a video step by step I will link one below. Follow his instructions but just add the big gimpin file to the location he shows.

skip to 2:30 in the video to cut out the self promotion.

Cheers!

What does the plugin do? Where can it be found? Is it available for users who don't use Macs?

I use it for my laser engraver. I just installed it and will be using the plug in to edit photos for burning onto wood and tile. I’m not sure what OP could be using it for.

Yes it’s available for windows.

Good on you Fuzz for sharing with other Mac users how to do it.

Reading your howto it hardly seems intuitive or even logical.
Maybe you had good drivers for your laser engraver and now you have a good app to run it.
