Having received a sort of "imprimatur" by OMG, Lyle and Issabella, I decided to release as a filter the last version of my experiment A in drawing.
It makes use of Gegl c2g (thanks to Kevin).

Outcomes using colours, in 3 slightly different possibilities (depending on pencil lead).

Tip.
The simplest and most effective customization can be obtained by playing with the mode and opacity of the first (top-down) visible layer ("Sketch applied").
Experimented alternative modes are:
- LINEAR_BURN
- OVERLAY
- DARKEN ONLY
but of course you may try any and see.

Hello. Having a little trouble here. When I run Draw Effect Style A on an image.

1) I dont understand the value for the first box: is it literally add the values of height and width together ?
2) I get an error: LAYER_MODE_NORMAL is not defined. I also see this :
newBG.mode = LAYER_MODE_NORMAL in the error details.

I need to also say that I am using GIMP 2.8.22 : do I need 2.10 ?

About your questions, the first option is the size that the filter works.
Look at the shot where I try to explain the options.
Very very important it's you have G'MIC at the current version and actualized. The filter has a dependency on Gmic.

Do I need to use 2.10 ?
i tried to upgrade to 2.10 and I have to backtrack now before i re-try
looks like i have some other issues to clear up then i can retry
but I cant wait. I have outdoor photos that I would love to try some of these filters on to see what happens

James, I forgot to say that All of his filters work ONLY on gimp 2.10
