Version 2.0: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=9290&start=20#p121428

As suggested by Krikor, I upgraded to Gimp-2.10 (with a little extra: text box, direction, justification, letter spacing, line spacing, border, text edge color, text edge thickness, color inside text, displacement type, alpha to Logo with option: Active layer for new image).
Requires LayerFX.py + blur-gauss.exe [with Gimp-2.8_64bit] which are included in the attachment).

Edit: add option to keep layers

The shine is a little heavy for me. Being able to adjust the layer would be nifty.

Hi Mahvin.

And for me too.
I will add the option to leave / or merge layers.
I can add a background fill too - what do you think about it?
Redundant or advisable?

Anything preliminary, borders or alpha channels, for example, devoid the need for a background. It's the easiest step to take if one wants to add a specific background. Having the layers, though, is enough, I think. That way we can fix borders and smooth them, and adjust the shine or blur/opacity.

As suggested by Mahvin, the option to keep layers has been added.
Thanks for the advice. :hi5

I got to thinking about this and decided I didn't like the yellow line as it were, so I removed it with the Fuzzy Select tool w/ LCH Lightness at a low threshold (15). Then I applied Alpha selection and saved the selection to path applying an anti-aliased yellow stroke of 2. After that, I went to Colors/Hue Saturation, selecting yellow and changing the hue to whatever color I liked best.

Lizards and dragons come in all sorts of colors and I figured the best option is to allow myself room to make those changes, even if its just text.

Addendum:

Using the Filters/Alpha to Logo eliminates the need to use Hue Saturation, but I still remove the old border and replace with a stroked path border since it looks much crisper.

To protect against the user not having the font you have nominated and to auto select an appropriate border size you can use this but in define change font to font-in, but I don't know how it fits with vertical text

(let* (
         (image (car (gimp-image-new 128 128 RGB)))
         (border (/ size 4))
         (font (if (> (string-length font-in) 0) font-in (car (gimp-context-get-font))))
(text-layer (car (gimp-text-fontname image -1 0 0 text border TRUE size PIXELS font)))
        )

Leaving the layers was a great decision, and making the Alpha-logo version available was the icing on the cake, the script was perfect.
Running lightly and smoothly on my Gimp 2.10.21 win10
Thank you very much Rod, Graechan and MareroQ!

@ Graechan.

Thanks for pointing out - but this elegant solution unfortunately does not work for vertical text (a bug for the x, y coordinate) about what I mentioned here:
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=9290&start=30#p255704
Now there is also a problem for border.
