Considering that integrating a text editor in a plug-in would be a *huge* amount of work, I'm really not sure it would worth the time spend on it ...

Now GMIC absorbs my whole free time...
GMIC because it is very important, I propose to create a new department at the Forum.
Who supports the idea ?

for sure that helps :yes

Anyway is not what i was asking (i believe that this doesn't allow to test filter on the fly , not as example the GUI definitions and related errors, but only some line of code )
However Roundrounors is right, the best way to write a filter is with a text editor, copy and paste on a gmic file take just few seconds, then the point is run the filter with the console open and gmic set to output messages (verbose or debugging ) to the console

@PhotoComiX : And why do you think so ? My main concern with this new feature was indeed to propose a small (but minimal) code editor allowing to test filters on the fly.
This won't replace the flexibility of text editing by a third-party editor, but believe me, you can write a filter 'from scratch' with this new interface, and you have a working preview that shows the result in real-time (depending on the complexity of your filter of course).
Also, I've added some paned widgets on the interface to make the GUI more customizable, so when you want to create a new filter, you can get a window very similar to the one of the gluas plug-in.

Really, you should have a try, I've made it as useful as possible. My concern now is to ease the creation of filters by other people, so that G'MIC can be qmore quickly extended with nice stuffs in the future (I won't have always new ideas of filters, nor time to implement them). You can even 'fave' your own custom filters, or put some of them in your filter source if you wish to share your code with somebody.

I've posted binary versions of these beta packages, so you can even try it on Windows (be sure to get the 'gmic_gimp_1.5.0.0_beta_xxxx.zip' archive to be able to test) : http://sourceforge.net/projects/gmic/files/

Please, test, and let me know then ;)
(I don't say that all is already perfect, but considering the amount of work I've put in it, it should be at least more than usable).

Regards,

David.

Maybe now, I'll start peeking my head out from my deep dark burrow and begin braving the testing within G'MIC. At least now it should not appear so intimidating.
