Use my default images or use your own. You can even add a multiply color overlay over images to make them more interesting! Have fun with this filter. It is similar to clay bevel but it has one less median blur and uses GEGL's noise-spread and shift.

It is official now. GEGL is challenging the existing "alpha to logo" meta. GEGL has not entirely deprecated it (yet) but it is working on it. :D

@ contrast_, you didn't post the compiled .so file/files. Are you expecting everyone to compile for themselves?

Possibly ;) The files do not take much compiling, except the Gimp dev files..etc needed which is all bloat for the user.

Try the attached, unzip and put the rock-text folder (contains the 4 files) in ~/.local/share/gegl-0.4/ Compiled in a Mint 19 VM so should be reasonably backward compatible.

This in my regular kubuntu 20.04 I can see one snag, not so good with small text. Download the texture files from source as post #1 if required.

Thank's rich, I really should set up a VM for these things. I don't want too much junk on my main system.

Not too shabby after extrusion.

Made me chuckle, that 1) you treat your main system and behave as if its a brand new car, truck, motorcycle, and 2) consider code as possibly "junk". I'm not belittling this in any way, it's pretty much how we all treat our machines and various programs, apps, and code. We're just a different kind of motorhead.

Well coding is not my thing. I've compiled a few programs before from tarballs and other sources, but I much prefer pre-built ready to run stuff. I like my main system to run as smooth as possible and clutter free. A VM is a better platform for that type of stuff, I think.

I think you should refrase what you posted.
I have a lot of plug-ins and my system still work as new. "Coding it's not your stuff", but benefits from others plugins? The plugins we create for free to use here and upload here, are no junk. :hoh

Once you've got your food, clothing, shelter and transport you can do some cave painting. In this case 'stone text styling' :gimp

You obviously misunderstood my posts. I have hundreds of plugins installed and use many of them. What I don't want to do is compile said plugins on my main system because it will require installing a bunch of bloatware that I would never use otherwise.

A VM is a better platform for that type of stuff because it is non important. I thought my posts were perfectly clear, but apparently not.....

Just so everyone knows, that the download contains .so files. However, before the file/attachment change, they were .dll files.

No prejudice here but Gimp is a Linux thing and someone like me has a Linux first agenda so I will only make Linux binaries. I urge people to switch to Linux if they can. I never made Windows binaries.

Gimp is not a Linux thing. If it was, everyone here would be using Linux. It's also a Windows and Mac thing. I never said that you made windows binaries. I was just pointing out that before the files/attachment were updated, the previous download had .dll files.

Actually, I take that back. I was wrong. There are dll files in the file attachment pocholo posted. Sorry about that.

Rock text now only uses one binary. On the downside the opacity of gegl:color-overlay cannot slide down its opacity without breaking the filter. The fix is either applying a color-filter after or setting the color to light green, light blue, light yellow for semi transparent effects with the multiply blend mode.

Here is an example of a light color blended with muliplied color overlay being treated as if it were semi transparent.

No changes have been made and the downgrade is only very minor and many will not notice.

Put the plugin in
C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\gegl-0.4\plug-ins NOT GIMP's regular plugin folder

I like the results of rock text. Although, setting the spacing on your text might be beneficial to keep the rock effect from linking them together.

Rock text fixed the bug with the multiply color opacity slider ruining the filter. Sliding the opacity for multiplied color overlay now works normal. I have a much deeper understanding on how to arrange GEGL nodes then I did a month and two months ago. So now I seem to know what I am doing.

Also the default preset is changed to something much more elegant.
