Any plugin of mine that has an image file upload will work in Gimp 2.99.16, but if you upload an image and hit ok or cancel Gimp 2.99.16 will crash. It will show the image preview that you uploaded, but Gimp 2.99.16 will still crash.


The problem is likely with Gimp not GEGL, but the two particular gegl nodes are gegl:layer and gegl:load Gimp isn't reading them correctly and they are the only nodes that allow image uploads. This problem is not in 2.10. I have no way of fixing this.

If this is not fixed by the release of Gimp 3 I will do the unthinkable and make a separate branch of all my plugins exclusive to Gimp 3 and remove all image upload abilities . I reported it to Gimp's team so there is hope.

Any plugin, Glossy Balloon, Custom Bevel, Sharp Bevel, GEGL Effects ect...

Just image upload and press ok and it crashes.






A made a mini filter with no nodes except gegl:layer with an image upload by itself and that crashed too. It worked fine in 2.10x

I tried forking gegl:layer directly without any nodes and renamed it lb:layer. It worked in Gimp 2.10 but crashed in Gimp 2.99. I also used a version of GEGL Layer from 2021, though I don't know if the code was updated.

All evidence suggest this is Gimp 2.99.16's fault (not gegl) and Gimp's team needs to fix it and if it does not fix by Gimp 3 I will make a separate branch for Gimp 3 with a warning and all image upload nodes will be removed. I hope I don't have to do this.

I confirmed it does not happen in 2.10.36. ( I was on 2.10.32 )
