Does anyone know if there is a dispersion effect in G'mic... or Gegl?

There is a solidify filter in (Repair) GMIC. which diperses colours of an image into a transparent background.
As for dispersing the same image I can only think of the array filters (in Arrays and tiles) GMIC.
There is also (map projection) GMIC again - Not tried this one yet but it may do what you want.

Layer or brush (not both) in Dissolve mode, it is the opacity slider which will control the more or less particle/dispersion effect > 100% opacity = 0 particle/not dissolved.

With a black brush with reduced opacity (or it will just work like a normal brush)

Or with the layer mode dissolved over a white layer

Good to know: The remaining particle are 100% opaque even if opacity is at 20%, as in this very case (the dissolve mode) the opacity slider will not affect the transparency in the usual way but in a dissolved way.

PixLab, thanks, I'll definitely try it
I have an old cubism. py file to get this result. Not completely satisfied yet.
The 2nd photo is with GEGL. cubism

Maybe look under arrays and tiles in GMIC. Grid (cartesian) or Ministek. Seamless diffusion...maybe you can get it to do what you want, I cant.

I'm using an old version of G'mic, but
there is a filter under Artistic called Cubism.

Not sure if this is the kind of "dispersion" you are looking for.

This is the result of the filter using the default setting.

Now a little more time.
I did this in G'mic > deformations > breaks. Set type to relief.

Have you noticed that G'mic has a dice? This way you can play easily.

I could make a dispersion GEGL plugin but I assure you it would be medicore compared to doing it manual.

I'd put cubism in the erase blend mode and then linear motion blur it then reapply another cubism.

An alternative could be gaussian blur on the behind blend mode inside a dissolve composer and then beveling the dissolve noise. I'll have to experiment.

I would love that, but I can get by with G'mic. So don't bother me. p.s. I use different filters from you with pleasure.
