here a simple procedure for beginners

1. New image 400x400 trasparent
2. Pencil tool and draw like this ( here is white backgrand but should be on trasparent!)

3.Layer>Clone-Layer-Tool>Rotate with these settings
Image
4. Filters>Render>3D Extrusion

This tool looks great, and perfect for what I'm trying to do as doing it manually would take days, but I can't for the life of me get it installed.

I'm using Gimp 2.8 on a Samsung Note 2012 10.1 through Debian XFCE, but can't get this working as when I take the gimp-clt-v0.2-bin.tar file I'm not sure what exatly to do with it as I've never used Linux before. Just putting in plug-ins folder, or extracting that with 7zip and putting the 'clone-layer-tool' file that it extracts does nothing, I don't understand what I'm doing wrong.

Does anyone know how or what would need to do to get this fine looking plug-in working please? Your help would be greatly appreciated as I've struggled with this for a few days!

It looks like it is only available at this time in the beta version for windows. Read Lyles post.

Ahh, thanks Molly, that's a bummer, on the Gimp registy there were a few folks talking Linux, and there were also links and instructions for install in Linux, but on the plus side, at least I'm not going mad!

Doing it the long way it is then!

You are welcome. I use Linux and this probably has to be compiled but to do that on a notepad might be a bit of a challenge, I don't know.

Cool cheers. Yeah from what I'm reading so far, XFCE is a stripped down distribution so you are right, compiling with Gimptool on the tablet is not going to happen sadly.

Actually the only file in there is the executable for linux i think. I am pretty sure just placing it in the plug-ins folder will work. Just restart GIMP. Layers>Clone Layer Tool

yep- gimp-clt-v0.2b-bin.tar = Linux binary file

Sadly, no... Now I can see Clone-Layer-Tool in the folder, but can't set the permissions as of yet, going to tackle that one after a round of cheesy beans on toast, you down for cheesy beans on toast Rod?!! :D

Sounds good! :)

Actually can't you right click the file to set perms? Seems like that is how i did it in Fedora. As long as you have Admin perms you should be able to do that i think.Been awhile since i've used Linux honestly. :)

Yeah... that's why it's weird, on the desktop, I can get to the properties tab and set perms, but not within Plug-Ins folder, that tab is greyed out... If I set it on the DT and move, it removes perms...

I'm missing something here, probably obvious too, I *think* it has more to do with the Android/Virtual Machine side... :gaah

edit: VM is XServer XSDL. Launch commands are;

XSDL -nohelp -screenbuttons -exec $SECURE_STORAGE_DIR/usr/bin/xli -onroot -border black -center $SECURE_STORAGE_DIR/loading.gif ; $SECURE_STORAGE_DIR/img/proot.sh ./startx.sh

I understand not much of this yet, the VM hasn't requested SU access, so think it may be stopping/limiting permissions of files within the sdcard/Android etc folders... But I could be barking up the wrong tree, either way, I can't make executables executable in this setup, so might try install elsewhere or on external sdcard... Might be time to give up on this one...

I still stick by my premise that a notebook is a better bet than a tablet ;)

As my Asus TF101 died, I got a cheapish Acer Chromebook C270 two weeks ago as a replacement. Not bothered about having a touchscreen. I can plug my old Wacom in if required.

Nice to be back to an Intel processor rather than ARM. Means I can dump Chrome OS and install a proper linux.

In this case a Bodhi E17, as lightweight as xfce but much prettier. That Gimp is 2.8.14 from the 'buntu ppa and of course plug-ins & scripts work fine.
