Yes, there's distortion with displacement.

I guess you'd need what they call in 3D "vector displacement". Difficult.

Maybe, if you have certain use in mind, you can get some ideas from others, if you tell what you have in mind?

I don't really have a certain use in mind... but it would be useful for several applications. For example applying textures on images...
