Hello, I know in this forum there are users involved in the G'MIC project. It would be great if they could incorporate an effects like the one shown in the video:

http://youtu.be/neY8RQRgo6I

Thank you.

I'd actually would nominate this to be turned into a script. I think this would be a sweet way of being able to put a caption on an image when attention needs to be drawn subtly to the wording without being taken away from the image.

Perhaps you could get one of the moderators to move this and then edit this thread just a tad to ask! :)

Although .. the music in the video was starting to make my ears and eyes bleed! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh! :goofy

It's in the proper forum. Could change the subject line to say: "KDE4/Aero Blur Effect. Possible G'MIC filter or script?"

Has to be ok with YAFU though.

Thanks for fixing that, YAFU.

Excellent job on that video. You went slowly enough and paused with the changes so it was easy to see what you were doing.

The video tutorial was made by user "Xgeous" from GIMP Spanish forum:
http://www.gimp.org.es

It would be nice to be able to choose the filter values: smoked color and opacity (white, black or any other), level of grain/noise, elevation, shadow.

I know that making this request is very easy. Make the filter is hard work...
Thanks!

Here are my results. I've attached a pdf file with a very simple text document of the effect.

@ Oregonian, Great! good idea! I take...

The possibilities are many I see.

Here I used a a little different technique (Really, I still do not understand the use of masks)
I have a base image. Rounded rectangular selection close the outer edge of the base image. Invert that selection. A new small rectangular selection for the title, holding down the Shift key to keep the other selection. Gaussian blur applied on the two selections. I add a new transparent layer keeping the previous selection.
I apply on the transparent layer Xach-Effect with white Highlight. Reduce the opacity of the layer called "Highlight"
I think that adding a noise/grain to the blur can be even better.

Very pretty YAFU! Nice job. I like the idea of blurring outside of the layermask selection and centering the the effect.
