I did yum install gimp-resynthesizer in Fedora Linux and (I was very surprised) it was there. I could have done a search in Add/Remove software also.
Anyway, you Linux people may find it in your Linux distro if you are interested. I don't know how installing software works in other distros. It's a very nice tool.
Find it in GIMP in Filters > Map > Resynthesizer.
This is a small example. I used the default settings. The top one I put text in and duplicated the layer. The bottom one I used the rectangle select tool to select around the text and used Resynthesizer to remove the text.
