Hey there guys, I requested a GIMP script/plugin in another GIMP forum and a user (Rod) gave me this forum's link saying that you could propably help me.
So, I have seen a lot of PS videos lately and I have seen how awesome and easy their "Free transform" tool is. I searched for an advanced transform tool for GIMP, but I failed. Can someone here program one for me/us all? It looks just like an IWarp with a grid attached to it to handle the deformation. Even if this is not possible, could you maybe make an IWarp >tool< instead of a filter, so that you don't have a preview image but work live on your layer while the whole other layers are still visible?
I'd be happy about any attemts.

Hey there Baum. glad to see you made it over to Gimp Chat.
I hope to see you here more often.

If it is possible to develop a script or plug-in for what you need, I am sure
someone here can do it for the benefit of all Gimp users. There are many
talented script writers who post here.

I was checking out the Photo-Shop Puppet tool, it seems to have somewhat the same effect.
Addition of nodes on a mesh graph to be able to stick them to certain pixels and move them?

Looks nice, but I doubt that it can do the same things I'd like to do .. I'm still hoping for an answer though :)

Mine too, but I've managed to do pretty well with the iwarp tool with a few tricks.

First of all make the layer boundary size of the layer you want to warp bigger. This way you can move from the sides.

Then when iwarp is open resize the window so your preview is nice and big. Then click on reset and it won't be blurry anymore. Then move with a high number (100 or depending on the image size). Push in and pull out from the transparent sides.

Mesh Warp is the tool i think you are looking to mimic.

I did some web research and found a couple of neat articles about something like this being in development. =)

Whoa! How cool!!! That movie is great. That would be wonderful if they can make it work in GIMP.

I thought so too, think of the easy animations or morphs you could create with it! =)

You can download this test file You can not edit an image with the jar file, but you can get a sense of what the plug-in will be able to do.

Here is a video screen-shot to download. (high quality)

I saw this several weeks ago myself; believe it was part of Summer of Code project. I definitely want this implemented asap. We shall see. :)
