Hello everyone. This is my first post. I'm also very new to using Gimp and G'Mic. The problem I'm having is when I try to load additional filters (such as Tom Keil's set) into G'Mic. I went to the Additional Filters section under the "+ About" tab, "Add all filters sets" was already checked under the "Manage sets globally:" section. When I hit "Apply" I get the following error:

*** Error in ./gimp_add_filter_sources/*local/ *** cimg::fopen() : Failed to open file '' with mode 'wb'.

I've tried unchecking the "Add all filter sets" and then checking the "Add Tom Keil's filter set", but I end up with the same error after hitting the apply button.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

By the way I'm running Gimp 2.6.11, 32bit Windows version on a 64bit Windows 7 machine with 6gb ram. Also, the version of G'mic I'm using is the latest one 1.5.1.1

This may not help but try shutting down and rebooting. Sometimes the plug-ins get stubborn. If that doesn't work, I am sure one of the GMIC boys will help you with this.

Thanks for the welcome and the attempt at helping. I've tried shutting down both Gimp and my computer, but to no avail. But, I'm sure someone will come along and be able to help.

In the meantime, I thought I'd try to upload my attempt at doing an "abstract" piece of art in Gimp and G'mic.
Hopefully, it will actually be uploaded and show up on this thread.

BTW Charlie, it isn't just your computer that is getting the error. I just updated my GMIC to 1.5.11 and I am getting the same error when I refresh...[*** Error in ./gimp_add_filter_sources/*local/ *** cimg::fopen() : Failed to open file '' with mode 'wb'].

Whew, ok, it's good to hear that at least it isn't my computer. Perhaps it will be a simple fix on the part of the programming team; some little bit of code they accidentally left out. Now, if only they would read this forum!

Has anyone else installed the newest GMIC plug-in? 1.5.11? If so, did anyone else get this error?

Yes i get the same error when trying to update other filters also.
More than likely something to do with the way some filters are coded.

I am able to import faves though.

Ok, I see there is a problem with the latest release, but can hardly fix the bug since I'm in vacations (in Brussels, to be precise ).
Maybe you could try to delete your %APPDATA/gmic_sources.cimgz file, and try to refresh the filters again. You don't need to explicitly add the external filters as it should be done automatically with the 1.5.1.1 release.

No it isn't a linux issue Lyle, the other person having the problem is using Windows and gets the same error.

I'd try that, but being a newbie I don't know where to find that file on my Windows 7 system. Give me a hint as to where it might be located.
Also, none of the external filters, as far as I can tell, are loaded (e.g., Tom Keil's filters do not show up... for instance, his photoillustration filter is nowhere to be found).

Tried in portable and it didn't work
Gimp-2.8 install = not working either
Can't try gimp-2.6 its gone.

Thanks to Ronounours for fixing the problem. For those that haven't read, the problem has been corrected. All you need to do now is hit the refresh button twice; of course you have to be connected to the internet.
