Bypass the problem : use "export for the Web" instead then gimp export
I believe was compiled also for 64bit, and works very well

Using RiOT which, imo, is a far better plugin then export to web or anything else GIMP has. The only two plugins I haven't got working in 2.8 64-bit is Filter Factory Convertor (haven't tried) and Liquid Rescale (probably not compatible with GIP 2.8 unfortunately; awaiting someone else who got it to work in 2.8 64-bit and then will ask them how they did it). :)

edit: got user filter installed too --> http://registry.gimp.org/node/10902#comment-9040

Yes; you also have to point to the directory where you stored these files if they are not in your main directory (I added the directory path under the Preference>plugins settings much like how I had to add Mathmap directory too. You also need some guf files which I added all the ones that I already had in GIMP 2.6. :)

Once you see the user filter, you need to run the filter and in there add the guf directory. The problem I'm having is the filter doesn't save this location so each time I run the filter, I have to add the guf directory. Haven't figured out why yet; maybe another bug. :)

I tried SAMJ's compile (http://www.aljacom.com/~gimp/gimp-plugi ... 64bits.zip) too but it does the same thing. I'm tempted to try the 32-bit version and see if that fixes this issue; too tired to experiment now though but might tomorrow. :)

Don't bother Graechan; just tried the 32-bit version too; get the same old dosbox popup that I got with GIMP 2.6 but it works until you re-open the filter. Have to add the path to the gufs again. Must be a weird bug interaction with user filter and GIMP 2.8 so whoever maintails the user filter will need to update it I'm afraid. Same for LqR too. Not holding my breath. :)
